Why shouldnt it be 5%? lol
15 is pretty much the standard when you're talking manual RWD transmissions. I've owned 2 T56 LS1 Camaros and while they were rated at 305 from the factory ('98-'00), could easily make 280+ rwhp on a dynojet. That didnt mean the drivetrain loss was crazy low, just that the F-Bod LS1s were underrated. Looks to me like the LS3 in the 5th Gen is right on the money rated at 426hp.

Every car is different. Every dyno is different (+,- some ponies).
The car may need more miles (hp numbers usually increase with some miles on the car). This dyno doesn't read "high numbers" like many other dynoes. Time will tell. We will need to see more cars dynoed on many different dynoes to get a true picture. And the numbers are definately not bad 380 lb ft of torque (stock). |

Also, this is 1 car on 1 dyno on 1 day. Do all corvettes on every dyno make 385 hp? No. Some do, some don't. Also, Corvettes are said to have lower drive losses, so a 436 hp Corvette @ 12% loss = 384 whp. A 426 hp Camaro @ 15% loss = 362 whp.

LS3 or L99? If it's LS3, it does not compare favorably to the hemi 6.1, which gets about 380hp to the wheels with the 6spd. If it's L99, that is an excellent number. edit: never mind: Quote:
Wish there were a way to test the amount of loss through the drivetrain. 1) Either Chevy's numbers are overstated for crank hp 2) Or Dodge's numbers are understated 3) Or there is a large difference in driveline loss between the two cars. (doubt it since it's an identical trans...) Very very interesting results. |

I've seen dynojet dyno's range +/- 20hp. you really need to thier numbers on other cars on the SAME dyno.
Sky is not falling yet, LOL -bobby

same dyno, the G8 GXP made 351. Camaro makes 13hp more, thats seems right to me, I think the g8 makes 415 from gm no? just checked things, ya 415 from GM, 11 diff. looks like camaro did even better.. ![]() -bobby 65355 says the below which I kind of agree with. I'm thinking intake/exhaust bottleneck OR which I fear..........driveline lose maybe due to the irs design? Wish there were a way to test the amount of loss through the drivetrain. 1) Either Chevy's numbers are overstated for crank hp 2) Or Dodge's numbers are understated 3) Or there is a large difference in driveline loss between the two cars. Just to clear some things up.
The car is a manual trans LS3 with roughy 1,000 miles. The correction factor used was SAE. We have been told in the past that our Dyno Jet is somewhat conservative, but we have it calibrated at least twice a year. For reference, a stock LS7 Z06 and stock Shelby GT-500 makes 440 RWHP, a stock LS2 manual trans vette makes about 340 RWHP. Hope this helps. -Rick |
