So why change your exhaust, how are guys claiming power differences by replacing them,,both good and bad...Please explain!

Just an observation -

Ummm... weight, and they look like crap. That's my observation.

I left mine because they look like big testicles hanging down underneath the car. This car has balls.

...and I like the way they sound with long tubes and no cats. No drone.

Was behind a M3 or an M5 (can't remember) and was surprised to see a similar very visible pair of corrugated stamped style mufflers. To be honest, I don't mind the look of them. I would like something louder, with no drone. I would like to hear Long Tubes, HFCs, resonator delete and stock mufflers, but doubt anyone would have such a configuration.

This thread shows BMW aftermarket mufflers with a simiar appearance. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114249

I think stock mufflers look cool. Especially when they are clean and new looking.

i,ve posted this several times now on different threads. get rid of the resonator (L99) and get some high flow cats. = sound and some performance for cheap. the aftermarket exhaust companys are cashing in,, big time. but, on the other hand,,, they do have different sounds. so if its sound your lookin for , go for it.

the only way i would keep stock mufflers is if i painted them black. honestly WTF was GM thinking. i don't know of one sports car that has that huge and ugly of mufflers.

I have to disagree with this statement 100%...

All of the asses in my household are much louder then the stock exhaust and sound much more powerful...

Thread from the dead... but what's all that hairy gunk in there? Looks like something from Mary Poppins' chimney.

yeah necro-thread!

But you know what? When I chopped my mufflers off on my 2011 L99, there was a TON of water trapped in them...so I know I lost more than normal weight reduction numbers...I couldnt believe how much water was in them, and it was taking forever to drain. It definitly was an immediate and cheap mod for sound and ~3hp (from weight).

Just ask John Hennessey... his cars make some serious HP with the stock mufflers in place.... I think he knows something that the most of the Camaro Peep haven't figured out yet... including me. We have Cherry Bomb and Magnaflow Systems on our Camaros. I think I would have done headers etc back to the stock mufflers if I would have know this earlier.

I know an engineer that worked for Walker muffler/exhaust company in Racine, WI. A lot of experimenting goes into coming up with an exhaust system that is complimentary to the vehicle and engine. Harmonics and pressure play a big role in alowing the engine to breath correctly for the best performance, sound and economy. "When you mess with the plumbing you make cause a leak". However what ever rocks your boat.
