Anyways.. I dont understand why people think that 16-18 year olds dont deserve an SS.. If they're responsible, and have a level head on their shoulders, then why the hell not?

For my 17th birhtday i got a 2010 VR 1LT, and for my 18th birthday/graduation, we traded that in for a 2011 2SS/RS RJT 'Vert.. Do i feel that i deserve it? Absolutely.. I worked my ass off through high school to maintain a high GPA, didnt go out partying like most others, but instead had a part time job along with playing football. I had perfect attendance to school from the 8th-12th grade, and was never late to work in the 5 months i had the job..

So, before you guys bash on every young kid with an SS, it might help to get to know them a little bit.. Not all people younger than 20 are irresponsible little assholes.
And who is making the payments?? I carried a 4.2 throughout high school worked a part time job and was a 4 year Varsity Captain/letterman of the wrestling team. Was ranked in state all 4 years (2 of which I didn't make it to the state tournament due to knee surgeries). 6th place my sophomore year and 3rd place my senior year (after missing half the season from said surgery). Did I deserve a camaro SS at that time! Hell yes!! Did I have one??? HELL NO!!!! I couldn't afford one making $8.50 an hour, plus insurance and gas... And my parents weren't exactly made of money but they wouldn't even buy me a beater.

What I'm getting to is that this girl deserves it for making her own money and not having mommy and daddy buy her a car. But I don't really think you do (no offense really) IF you are not the one making 100% of all the required payments(monthly payment, insurance, gas). If you are, well then you deserve it and good for you!! I wish I could when I was in high school.

I would be dead if I had had an SS at 16.

I really hope this girl makes good decisions with the money. My grandfather left me an inheritance when he passed away when i was 18. (Grandparents raised me since my mom was young when she had me.) Def a whole lot more than what this girl has EARNED but my first instinct was to do something responsible. I purchased a house at 19, and lent half of it to my grandmother (Grandparents divorced) who needed the money to build more businesses so she wouldn't have to go through the bank, the rest i invested and of course kept some for spending which led to my Camaro I get interest from my grandmother on a monthly basis and plan on re-investing that money once she pays me back. Now at 23 and married buying a house first was the BEST decision i ever did and always guarantees a roof over my head. I also plan that if i upgrade home, i could always rent out the house for an extra investment. I really hope her parent and her go in the right direction, i hate seeing teens and young adults at my age go through money like candy.

Driving is a learned skill... the actions are learned, the ability is skill

I believe this is what the majority of us 'wise old folk' think as well. No matter how intelligent I was at 16... the wisdom just wasn't there; wisdom can only be gotten through time.

At 16 you have about what...12-14 years of total life experience, (most people don't remember the first 2-3 years of life too well) & none of which behind the wheel. Even if it is in your blood to drive, nothing equates to the experience of putting miles behind you.

16 = 1/5 avg. life span

Final point... insurance rates go down as you get older... jus' sayin'...

if she can afford it, she bought it, who cares how old she is? in my opinion, if they are a big enough fan of the car, and they arent an ass, then they deserve it. who cares? some people are lucky. im 18, and im the biggest fan of any car/car company that i know of, (being the camaro/chevy combo) and i enter every contest/drawing/competition that i can to win a new camaro. if i won one it would be my dream come true!! would i "not deserve it" just cuz i was lucky? she actually earned the money and bought it herself! i say more power to her!

When you win a car you still have to pay TTL (in NM at least... roughly about $2000 if I remember correctly). But still one hell of a deal. I wouldn't hate on anyone for winning a car (or the lottery lol). Luck is not having earned something, but it's also not having someone else pay most of the expense for you. You won the money and you paid with the money I guess

Nope, because she bought it herself! To be honest, though, I do worry when I see a 16 year old with a V8 sports car, but that's because I am pretty sure if I had this car when I was that age, I would have gotten myself killed. Congratulations, Lexi, that is amazing! Drive safe!
