I'm kinda hoping for CABLE ... Hydraulic is just WAAAAY too much fun to servive !!

It's hydraulic. Even the 4th gen was hydraulic, and so are the corvette's.

They switched from cable to hydraulic in 1984 on the f-cars.

Who the heck would want a cable actuated clutch???

I can't think of a single car built in the last 20 years that had a cable or direct linkage clutch.

Dodge Neon 96-98 IIRC and I'm sure there were plenty of others. Cut the timeframe to 10 years I can't think of any off the top of my head though!

All '79 thru '04 Mustangs had a cable clutch and were completely service free on the 3 Mustangs I've had since '94 with over 300k miles of operation between them.

I allways thought Hydraulic would be better, but after doing a complete clutch overhaul job on a '92 F150 including the master & concentric slave cylinder in January of this year, I decided that "cable" operated is really not that bad !!

If you've ever serviced a hydraulic clutch yourself, you know where I'm coming from. It is really not all that difficult for someone who is mechanically inclined and has the patence to read though all instructions etc., but it is tedious and time consuming to do it properly.

C'mon you are comparing rubber bands and paper clips on your Mustang to cold forged steel and molten lava in a Camaro.

I'm pretty sure the main reason Ford still used a Cable clutch all the way thru 2004 on Mustangs was because it was it simple to install on the assembly line, worked well, was CHEAP, and PROVEN. Why waste any engineering time to upgrade it unless something else changed that got in the way of the cable routing.

With all the special cables, adjustable quadrants, etc. the aftermarket made for these cars I'm sure a lot of racers had some choice words for Ford's cable system but for daily driving with occasional agressiveness it is pure simplicity.

Whether the '05-10 Mustang is hydraulic or not ... I'm guessing it is but I don't know for sure.

I replaced the clutch on my 2000 Prelude with help from my uncle and it was not that bad a job as you guys make it out to be. It's hydraulic..... no problems, took our time and it took about half a day.

Hydraulic clutches are smooth and consistent. If you like cable clutches, that's cool, but hydraulic is the way to go.
