Z28 and ZL1 were RPO codes

SS is Super Sport
RS is Rally Sport

Z28 and ZL1 never meant anything. Z28 was RPO code of the package, so they decided to just call it the Z28. ZL1 was the RPO for the all aluminum 427 cubic inch engine. The car never officially had a name, but people called it the ZL1 because of the engine package.

They are option codes. Basically every option the car has (polished wheels, IOM interior, etc) has an RPO code (numbers and letters) that the computers use. Kind of like a serial number for the option.

I believe I am right, but if someone wants to correct me feel free.
