yea cobalt SS/TC bests it , quicker, lighter , faster. It's also the fastest car in its class around the Nuremberg ring.

The Cobalt may be faster, but I'd rather ride in a Camaro

Not sure where you got 13.6 from, but Road and Track got "0–1320 ft (1/4 mile)
14.0 sec @ 101.8 mph"

for the 2008 Cobalt SS.

I haven't seen any numbers for the v6 Camaro except for official numbers from GM which are very likely conservative. It looks to me like they run the same 1/4 mile.
He said he ran 13.6 in his cobalt ss/tc! (with DR's)

Except me, Xanthos.

I've driven the Cobalt SS and the little 2.0 L SIDI Turbo is pretty awesome. Unfortunately you give up a lot in the Cobalt. Camaro is just too cool. Doesn't even have to be faster to be better.

The v6 camaro has a great engine, however what really kills the camaro is the weight issue. hopefully in the up-coming years the camaro will lose a couple hundred pounds, id like to see the v6 hit the 1/4 in the mid 13's.

yes and all the reviews are saying the V6 bests the V8 as well, when the V8 was nurburgring tuned, so it should out do the V6 very easily.

now if i had the money to buy either car i'd choose the camaro over the cobalt. but if i was on a budget and had a choice between the v6 and cobalt ss, cobalt would get it. quicker, better handling, brembos, better mpg's. 1000 bucks gets u over 320whp, from 230. so a 90whp improvment for 1000 bucks is pretty damn good.

Um... the Cobalt SS is about 24k bucks. So is a bare-bones 1LT. So price is not a factor.

Also- Nuernberg is where Nazi war crimes tribunals took place. The Nurburgring Nordschliefe is where people drive cars fast.

If if was that easy for the Camaro to lose a couple hundred pounds in the next few years, it would have weighed a couple hundred pounds less now.

At this point it would be substituting premium materials. Look at the Z06. An all aluminum frame, Carbon Fiber panels. All of that $$$$ only saved 160 pounds and some of that was taken back by the added weight of the powertain, wheels and brakes.

If it could be, it would be.

I'm sure a lot of weight could be saved if we started dismantling safety equipment but I'm loathe to do that. Somebody suggested removing some of the less-essential bumper reinforcements, but its that one time that bites you. I hope to drop about 50 pounds total by the time my build is finished. I think a lot will come off when those huge mufflers get replaced.

I own the same car the OP has and the Cobalt is just too much of a "boy racer" even if it is quick around the ring. I miss dougnuts and burnouts :( 500 WHP FWD Cobalt with brembos and you can't even find any rims around that fit it and look halfway decent that are lightweight and cheap ... I am trading in my Cobalt for a V6 Camaro and I will be modding the piss out of it .. Not too many Cobalts are going to be more then 300 WHP so if being different and have a rare car is your thing keep the balt. Not too many 10 second cobalts around .. FWD is just such a crappy platform IMO trq steer Cobalts Clutch is a big POS and they COST A MILLION DOLLARS + take 8 hours to install..

Camaro ATW unless you are in the Snowbelt and FWD is a must like most midwesterners know how much a RWD car is in the snow and ice the cobalt has EXCELLENT traction control and is basically an Economy car on roids. I haven't lost to a majority of people who test me in the car so it's still FUN AS HELL - I can't believ the guy above states practicality as being a reason not to own a cobalt when it's FWD/32 MPG's 300 HP 340 Lbs trq tuned Cheaper on insurrance RPD .. TOO FUNNY

http://www.autoblog.com/photos/gm-pe...isplay/994621/

^ this feature can be had for the cobalts for around 600 bucks All the performance data you can handle. Displays just as much info as the NISSAN GTR but costs a few bucks ...

So you are a boy racer you just dont want anyone to know? Just Kidding

Anyhow- Cobalts are listed at $24500ish. They actually sell for 21,000. The LS camaro lists around $22ish and it's been confirmed that those really won't be available until the very end of the year and probably only then by special order. The LT appears to be the breadwinner.

From all of the reviews I've seen and read (which is a significant amount), and at the risk of being put down for paper-racing. The Cobalt SS is going to have it's way with the V6 Camaro. Not by a lot, but enough that if you have a sub-25 budget and performance was your main goal, the choice would be clear (Cobalt SS).

I own a 2009 Cobalt SS btw. I would rather own a Camaro- many factors conspired to get me into a Cobalt SS rather than waiting for a Camaro. If my finances ever come back from the crapper- I hope to buy one in 2010.

cobalt is lighter, camaro is probably faster off the line but then slows down due to its weight

V6 Camaro is not faster off the line nor the 1/4 cobalt SS/TC is faster. Then again there is alot that the cobalt doesnt have that camaro does 2 LT v SS/TC, so its all in what you want
