You don't want a ZL1, trust me.

The risk of teen pregnancy goes up sevenfold with that car. Do yourself a favor: buy a Civic, and then you won't have to worry about knocking some young girl up

The ZL1 will be a much better beginner 550hp rwd car over the GT500 which can get sketchy depending on road surface and driving style. I think you will also be happier with the ZL1 especially with an auto. Dont listen to the haters, the ZL1 isnt too much for a 17 year old, heck go test drive a CTS-V auto and you will see how docile the car is.

550 HORSEPOWER and 17 years old, has never been the "smart choice". Maybe the fun choice, but I suggest you finish college before you die. Get yourself a nice economy car, then get the fun toys when your kids finish college... That's the smart choice.

IF you must have a Camaro NOW, then the smart choice will be a cherry '67-'69. Drive it, and keep it safe. They'll retain or increase their value, and any bumpkin can fix it. You'll look stylish without having to race or show off, and they're a true classic.

lol. a LT1 4th gen was too much for my 19 year old cousin. wrecked it within 6 months of having it. sad thing was my uncle bought it for him in MINT condition and i mean mint from an elderly lady (it was a 94) bone stock. when i heard the news my heart hurt a little bit and i wanted to kill him. you very rarely see a stock LT1 in perfect condition anymore

Maybe the OP is trolling, maybe not. Some stupid parents do buy their kids, high HP cars... If the kid survives, maybe they'll be a better driver from it. I know of someone whose parents bought him a nearly new Ferrari 308 GT4, at 18 years old. He wrecked it within 3 months, so they bought him a used Lamborghini Espada. Don't know what happened to him after that, but heard his DL had been pulled... Probably a good thing.

I'll be honest. You sound like you're ahead of the curve for your age by about 8 years....probably more like 12 now this day and age.

I finance my vehicle myself, so i appreciate my investment and know the feeling of having complete responsibility over it; not it being given to me. And we have similar backgrounds to an extent. Advanced studies program in high school, ROTC, dual enrollment in college...etc, etc. All that means little to nothing when your temptation overcomes your better judgment when you're sitting in this car. Yes, the discipline helps, but bad decisions will always be made out of haste and immaturity/inexperience at such an age. Its inevitable. Trust me you will understand this like I did as soon as you make one of those decisions.

Wow young bucks like you still give me some hope for the future.

I'm 28 and I work with people twice my age that still act like they are 16. It's pathetic.

So an 18 year old wrecked a early 80's 230hp V6 Ferrari that runs low 15's, I dont really see how that relates.

I dont know about you guys but there were a lot of kids I went to high school with that had 400hp muscle cars that weighed under 3,500lbs and I dont remember any of them totaling their prised possession.

I bought my 67 Camaro at 18 and after just one year of working it had a 400hp ZZ4, stalled th400, with a 12 bolt and 4.10's out back that weighed less the 3,000lbs. I went accident free with no speeding tickets with it until I lost it in a divorce. You sound like a mature and responsible guy from your post so I dont see a problem with an 18 year old like getting a ZL1 after 2 years of safe driving under your belt. You can always take a performance driving course and Cadilliac is doing something like that with their new CTS-V's

I took more risks, was more reckless and did a bunch more stupid shit when I was driving a 94 Dodge Shadow ex rental car I owned right before I bought my Camaro. I must of been the first person to try to supercharge their car with a gas powered leaf blower back in the mid 90's which now seems to be a popular mod as seen on youtube and the pages of Hot Rod magazine. It didnt work and the hood blew open at 45mph and creased it shit out of it. I lied to my parents and told them I pulled a Tommy Boy and forgot about the oil can which caused my hood to open up. lolz

The aftermath

and its replacment

That's what I was wondering. How are you stuck in a bad neighborhood, but yet your parents can drop the $$$ on a 50k+ car?
