QUÉBEC - La Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) travaille actuellement à développer une toute nouvelle méthode pour vérifier la conformité des systèmes d’échappement des véhicules bruyants.

À ce jour, les articles du Code de la sécurité routière stipulent que pour être conforme, tout véhicule – motocyclette et automobile – doit être muni d’un système d’échappement original, qui ne doit pas avoir été modifié de quelconque manière. Seule une broche introduite dans le tuyau d’échappement permet de valider ou non la conformité du système.
La nouvelle méthode, axée sur la mesure de décibels, sera plus précise.
« Parfois, la broche fait que c’est conforme, mais le système d’échappement est quand même plus bruyant que la normale, ou même qu’un système modifié. On n’a pas d’outils de mesure, présentement. On tient compte des pièces et ça devient difficile à appliquer », a expliqué Gino Desrosiers, porte-parole pour la SAAQ.
Loi basée sur le bruit
Pour pallier le problème, l’organisation collabore avec le ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) à la redéfinition de la loi afin qu’elle soit basée sur le bruit, plutôt que sur la « constitution » du système d’échappement.
« On veut établir une norme de décibels pour chaque type de véhicule. On pourrait le vérifier à partir d’un sonomètre qui pourrait être opéré par un policier. Avec le sonomètre, on aura une mesure précise, comme avec un radar. Des véhicules conformes devront atteindre tant de décibels au neutre, ou à 2 000 tours par minute, par exemple. Si ça excède, il pourrait y avoir contravention », a ajouté M. Desrosiers.
Nouvelle législation
La SAAQ travaille en priorité sur la législation entourant les motocyclettes et les véhicules cyclomoteurs. Après quoi elle s’attaquera aux automobiles. Ces nouvelles normes devront toutefois concorder avec celles déjà établies par Transports Canada pour les véhicules neufs. « Le but sera d’arrêter les contrevenants qui feront trop de bruit avec un système modifié. On a fait quelques tests pour voir si ça fonctionne bien. Quand la méthode sera bien définie, l’étape suivante sera de modifier le code et les articles. Ça relèvera ensuite du gouvernement », a conclu M. Desrosiers, qui estime, si tout va bien, que la nouvelle réglementation entrera en vigueur d’ici une année ou deux.

Leave it up to the SAAQ to kill business's in this province. They almost killed the motorcycle industry by trying to bring the price of motorcycle plates to $1000 now they are gonna kill the automobile after market industry.
