Ahh, I see.. I wouldn't go by the dyno numbers just yet. What that chart lacks is the heat/humidity/elevation and what month they did the dyno. The VR was released in the summer so nobody is going to post any good numbers.. and this is probably why you don't see many people posting dynos. It's pretty pointless.... You wont see any real results until next year... and even then dynos are pretty pointless. Look at 1/4 miles next year to get a better feel.

Maybe I shouldn't say "pointless" but too inconsistent. Dynos will vary so much that you could literally take your car to a dyno shop and run 250hp/235tq then drive across the street to another in the exact same car, same weather, same everything and pull a 265hp/220tq or a 260hp/255tq or whatever. They're a good basis to get a feel for the power you have but they're about as reliable as Ford.

I realize there are many factors that go into a dyno, but do they actually perform that poorly, or is there just a lack of good data out there?
The whole point of Ram Air is that air is forced into the air intake while driving. A regular dyno will not show that power because the car is not moving, so there's no air flowing into the intake. You would need a fan to simulate wind flowing into the intake while moving.

sound of intake

Has any noticed that this intake on mild accelaration sounds as if the engine is muffled (1800-2500rpm's) Anything above or below sounds normal but right in this range it seems like the engine is starving. I only have 100 miles on the intake and have been driving it easy. I was just curious if any one else noticed this?

Are you talking about the deeper sound that comes from the engine?

I've been meaning to start a new thread with some tips with the Vararam intake since I was one of the early adopters, but I just wanted to chime in a couple of quick points.

1. I initially had fit issues that left about a 1/8" gap between the bottom of the throttle body and the bottom of the intake horn. There is a very easy fix to this that doesn't involve trying to describe the exact dimension you need changed to Vararam and them trying to cut you a custom piece by trial and error. Here is what I did, and it resulted in the intake horn sitting PERFECTLY FLUSH with the throttle body.

Find a perfectly flat surface (I used a large piece of glass) and get a large sheet of fine sandpaper. Affix the sandpaper to your flat surface by using clamps or in my case do what I did and make your neighbor hold it down. Hold your intake with the circular aperture of the intake horn flat against the sandpaper, and pull the intake across in the direction you want the most material removed (in my case it was the top of the intake horn, so I held the intake with the top of the intake horn facing me and pulled it towards me). Do this several times and check your fit. You remove a VERY SMALL amount of material and it will be virtually impossible to remove too much by this method. If you want to remove material evenly across the entire intake horn, merely use a circular motion or go back and forth and then side to side.
Continue to check your fit until it's perfect!

2. I initially installed my radiator brackets with the hard plastic ring removed from the rubber grommet that holds radiator posts steady. Even though I had a perfect fit at this point, when I would accelerate the radiator had room to rock back and cause my intake to rise. I replaced the hard plastic rings and the radiator no longer had any room to travel, and have consistently had a key fob + of space. (Thank GTO for that tip)

3. Lastly, you only need to tighten your clamps enough so that they do not move. Overtightening can lead to deformation of your air horn. If you're obsessive compulsive like myself, I highly recommend a set of turbo clamps which will provide positive pressure all the way around the intake horn and prevent this from happening.

That's all I can think of for now, but let me tell you - even though I had about every issue you can have while installing this intake I would not return it. Vararam's customer service and tech support has been phenomenal, as well as the support of other members here on the forum. I hope this was helpful, let me know your thoughts!

Very helpful info!
Did you have a different brand before this one? I'm still debating if it's worth the swap from Injen.

I was completely stock before the Vararam, GTO can give you a better idea of the swap since he was running an Injen beforehand. Glad the write up was helpful!

GTO's pretty tight lipped at this point. Not a bad thing but not real forthcoming either.

What? I already did a comparison with install tips, comparable 0-60mph runs and my thoughts between the Injen and VR.

OK, I'll do another soon. I hate typing lol

I know you did, I read it but I guess I'm just waiting for someone credible to say, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIS INTAKE!

I wasn't trying to pick on you, I appreciate your input!

Short answer is for every day driving the Injen, Roto-fab, Airaid, CAI and the rest probably perform just as well as the VR.

I've had the SLP Blackwing, Airaid V1 & V2, Injen and now the VR.

I won't know if the VR will provide any substantial gains at higher speeds (60-100mph) until I get to the track. Fall is coming quick though.

I like the look of the VR in-line with the motor and the ease of maintaining the filter.

If I was going with a side box, it would be CAI. Really a nice looking, well built intake.

I still hate typing. lol
