Dogs are how you train them to be although some are more predisposition-ed to being more of a wild dog because they are only one step from it....

The issue with Pits are the people who own them and the breeders who over breed them and inbreeding.

Pits are massive money makers for breeders and gang bangers and insecure people love them as weapons... so you have what we have.... an unstable breed brought on by over-breeding and insecure owners.. The dog can be very sweet and to be honest I think German Shepard's attack more people but its isn't usually fatal where a pit-bull will go until the object is dead...

another ... dogs in a pack behave different... two pits are more dangerous to have than just one... dogs have a hierarchy and its determined by force..

So of course people don't have just one dog that can kill them they have 2 or 3...
Jessie from the TV show who's daughter was mauled to death had 3 or 4 of them running around in his yard when they attacked and killed his daughter...

Its unfortunate that the breed takes the blame but we have laws to protect people from themselves for a reason.. I agree with most of the bans.. Its unfortunate but it is what it is.
Well said. IT makes me nutz that so many blame the breed when its the ignorance - and in some cases sheer stupidity - of the owner that is at fault.

Give a .45 to a responsible adult who takes it and learns to appreciate it, understand it, and respect it, and you have a person who can protect themselves and their home.

Give a .45 to an "adult" that takes it just cuz its cool and hey- they shot it at the range once or twice - and chances are you will end up with an adult who kills themselves with their own gun.

But in this example, the gun would never be to blame.....

Eh, I spent enough years trying to earn that from my ex.

Give me a nice, loving doggie any day! (Over a cat or my ex! )

Only problem is the gunn wont[ jump off the counter and shoot someone without the owner assisting it. The gun can't walk out of the house and kill someone without the owner, or another person, assisting.

I believe its the owner's negligence in both cases that creates the problem. The gun doesn't have to jump off the counter. The fact that it is on the counter of someone ill equipped to handle owning it creates the propensity for the danger.

Agreed. A child could grab the gun etc. etc.

BUT, a gun would require someones neglegence and or stupidity if left on the counter. A killer dog doesn't need anything. It can get out on it's own power and harm someone.

I just thought of something funny..........

2nd Ammendment:

I know I'm late to the party but, in a different article I read...it said it was a 125lb pitbull...pitbulls DON'T get that big!!! If they do, they were asking for it to begin with.

Must have been a Mastiff or something. But if it looks "scary" it's a Pitbull. Anyone notice how no pictures of the dog have been shown. Most of the time they show pictures of the dogs. Its the stupid media that like to feed people with stuff like this...I'll let Russell Peters explain...the good part starts at 2:00 mark!

I got an American Bulldog and a Boxer mix and most people think they are pitbulls! Makes me laugh all the time. Just cause they are bigger than their dogs. Oh well...

My dogs...

So many people just assume a large breed is an aggressive breed.... Here's my "viscious attack dog" being told to back away from the cat toys.....

He is pretty big - but he's declawed, and they were actually only playing! I also have a 16 yr old persian. He just ignores all the other animals.
On the topic of Newfies.... They are generally thought of as gentle giants - which, in my experience is true for the most part (I've had 3). BUT, we had one who was tormented through the fence by the neighbor boy, and developed a strong dislike for little boys. Then one day, a little boy tried a stare-down with him. The boy was warned by my stepdad not to do that - explained that dogs consider that a challenge, that Sterling didn't like boys in general, etc.... The kid kept it up and ended up being attacked, no notice - not even a warning growl - by a 230 lb dog. MY family had to suffer the pain of having to put down a beloved pet because some kid wouldn't listen. but we knew he was a lawsuit waiting to happen....:( so it had to be....

Thats a bummer, it really is. Newfies are mans best friend, I've had dogs before but the personality really comes out in a Newfy, you would love my Jake...He's an awesome dog. He's 8 going on 9 and has just now mellowed out of the puppy stage.. I never had him fixed, he's never been allowed to run free so I didn't see a need for it.
Yea they don't like to be tormented, not sure any animal does but Newfs are a very strong minded... He's an Alfa dog for sure.. but such a love
