07/26/2011 (2500) Order preferenced. Order pulled to the production system.
08/05/2011 (3300) Order scheduled for production. Order is scheduled into the plant build cycle.
08/16/2011 (3800) Order produced
08/16/2011 (4B00) Your car is bayed and is waiting for transportation by truck, rail or transfer to vendor.
08/16/2011 (4200) Shipped (vehicle is shipped to the dealer or interim point of delivery).

EDIT: I called my dealer and he said that the car isn't there yet; code 6000 just usually means that the car has been transferred from rail to truck, so it should be here within a day or two.... but still good news.....

Ran into an old neighbor yesterday at the grocery store, he moved out of the area last year. He works for the company that ships the cars built at the Oshawa assembly complex. His company drives the cars from the plant to the shipping area (baying) and also loads the trucks and rail cars. I told him that I had just taken delivery of a new Camaro two weeks ago. He shed some interesting info on whats going on right now with the shipping. I will preface this by saying that he seems like a straight shooter but take this I,m sure with a grain of salt.

We are all aware of the shortage of rail cars, but he said that they are getting more cars now but the back log that was created is huge, at one point a couple of weeks ago there were 15,000 new cars waiting to be shipped. The problem is that the main shipping yard gets full so they bay the cars in satellite parking lots all around the complex. Once a car is in one of the satellite lots the chances of them getting shipped quickly is very unlikely. The Oshawa complex builds more than just the Camaro as well, so product from 3 assembly lines all go to the same yard for shipping. I told him about my car, that it was built on Monday and delivered to the dealer on Tuesday. He said that it was just lucky that there was room in the main yard when it came out of the plant and it does not matter if your car is traveling 10 miles or a thousand miles once the main yard is full it goes to a satellite yard. Some of the sat. yards are grass and the grass is 2 feet tall in them. They have started to go through some of the sat. yards looking for blocks of cars that have been waiting a long time to be shipped and trying to get them out but that it was difficult because of the large volume, remember these yards are huge, and the fact that the vehicles may be in the middle of the lot not easily accessible. He did say things were slowly getting better, but there were still a lot of cars to be shipped. This may explain why some cars get shipped quickly (room in the main yard when bayed) or Bayed forever (sent to satellite yard).

He did say some cars do sit in QC for a while also adding to the delay.

Thanks for the insight. There are always different versions of every story, with some truth to each. I can imagine that keeping track of where that large an inventory is parked is quite complex. I would think they would also try to batch the cars by rail line and shipping route.

That's what I thought, be he said only when the cars go to the main shipping lot. If that is full they just get parked in a satellite lot does not matter if it is going to Whitby or Alaska.

08/25/2011 - (6000) Vehicle delivered to customer or dealer has completed customer paperwork.

but I've been checking everyday and it was not on August 25. I haven't received a call from the dealer.... O.o
