Ive got a work cookout tonight and a Dragons Game tomorrow, so I am pretty booked up. I left a message to the insurance lady about Tuesday, I will let you know what she says, worst case scenario I am still going to go look at it.

Alright guys I need some thoughts about what my car might be doing. When I put my car in reverse it either thumps or it pops out of gear and proceeds with a horrible grinding sound. I thought I'd see if any other people are having this issue. At first I thought I just wasn't getting it all the way into reverse, but it's been doing it now for a while. Any intelligent thoughts as to this matter would be greatly appreciated!!

Auto or manual?

Manual for sure. Woudn't buy a sports car being automatic.

I feel like that's a stab at my automatic Camaro. I'm debating on whether or not I'll autocross in 2 weeks, I really wanna.

Do you have an aftermarket shifter? GM just put out an advisory about aftermarket shifters doing just that, it had something to do with bump stops outside the tranny when you are supposed to use the ones inside the tranny itself.

Reverse on the SS is tricky too. Sometimes you just dont get it all the way engaged. The grinding you hear are the gears grinding on each other. You just dont have it pushed fully into gear. I push mine really hard into reverse, to make sure its in... and sometime it still misses.

Basically you are getting it part way to mesh, then the thud is it slipping out of mesh. Dont worry too much about it unless you really can't get it to go into gear. The V6 has centering springs that the V8 doesnt have. If you go aftermarket, you can leave them out and from what I have herad there is no adverse effects.

I have driven Tony's V6 manual and I cant recall if it was that tough to engage but he had a Hurst shifter. I suggest upgrading, its money well spent. MGW, Hurst, etc... they are all good.

Yea it's all stock right now. B even tried it and he's clearly very strong and it did it for him too. It's definitely getting all the way in. I may have to take it to the dealership. I even took a video of it doing both things so that when they say nothing is wrong I can show them.
