Many GM cars now have the battery in the trunk.(my HHR). The Chevy dealer said the battery will last longer in a cooler place as engine heat will shorten the life of the battery...

I'm not explicitly saying you're wrong, but in all my years, and through all the books, magazine articles, and literature I've read on the Camaro, not once have I seen anyone reference the Camaro's inception being due to, a successor to, or in anyway related to the Corvair. I've always read the Camaro (called the Panther during its development phase) was a direct response to the wildly successful Mustang. A two door coupe, smaller and lighter than the Chevelles, GTOs, 442s, and skylarks, built solely for the purpose of looking cool, hauling butt in a straight line, and being able to handle better in the twisties than the larger G-bodies. I truly mean no offense by this post, but I would be curious to see a reference to your statement.

it was a direct competitor to the mustang, which was built to compete with the corvair monza. not necessarily a direct correlation. but when the Corvair Monza couldnt keep up, SEPAW came around

That is actually pretty ingenious. Now I really like the idea! Never would have guessed that in 100 years. (Not being sarcastic)

I thought I'd read that only the SS had the battery in the trunk, the V6 still has it up front. Is this true or do they both have it in the trunk ??

Yow! Always great seeing a Corvair and Brock Samson in action but both in one thread...the mind reels!
