ramps take up space underneath the car, so depending what you are doing you may not be able to do it with the car on ramps.

This doesn't seem very safe. I had a co-worker die a few years ago on a homemade ramp setup, the car was being held buy the rear brake, he started jacking the rear of the car and it ran over him. not good!

OK...so I will be using a hydraulic lift at the auto shop on Ft Rucker to install my JBA exhaust, but you guys have me confused on the lift points. On previous vehicles I would use the points in the first pic that PQ made, but it sounds like this is wrong. What am I missing?

I think you will be good to go using the same points using a hydraulic lift. I forgot how great some Bases had it with almost a full garage at your disposal. While Serving that's the least they can do. Thanks for the pic's PQ.

Lots of good info here, thanks! One question: is it ok to put only one side of the rear of the car up on a jack stand?
I've got a flat, but my car is in my garage so I want to just take the tire off and have it fixed rather than dealing with a tow (SS, no spare). Sorry if this question has been answered already, I didn't find it in the thread, and sorry if it's a stupid question. The only times I ever that I put a car on jack stands it was my '78 Impala with my Dad, and that was back in the '90s, so I'm a newb.

So we can not jack the rear by lifting the differential? Or did I just say something retarded?

I use the differential to lift the rear, and did the same with the Corvette's I have had, no issues, just use a hockey puck and you're good.

How long can a 'jack stand' stand?
Hey guys....need your professional advice. I live in Dubai, a place that gets PRETTY hot during summers. I avoid driving my SS during this period and would ideally like to leave my car off it's feet for an approximate 6 months. I also want to avoid getting flat spots on my tires by doing so.
So my question is, can I have my car parked up on jack stands for a duration of six months? Would a jack stand be capable of doing that and also, would I be damaging the chassis or anything since I am leaving the car sitting on 4 specific pressure points for that long?? I know my questions may sound stupid but do excuse my ignorance. Look forward to hearing from u boys....and girls if any!!! |
