Every digital camera image is "artificial". So?

On this website you find true color images taken by the Panoramic Camera on each of the Marsrovers Spirit and Opportunity. This is how images would look like, if an astronaut on the surface of Mars took images with a 1*Megapixel digital camera and sent them back to Earth via a planet wide Internet. That means, the colors appear the same as the astronaut would see them.

written by whom?

the whole argument is fundamentally flawed on both sides.

one can't believe this statement because of a lack of proof, but I've never been to the moon personally, so I can't verify any facts one way or the other. until one has personally witnessed/tested the facts, they are just opinions based of the work of others.

how can you verify that they are true color images? I can give you a link to pictures of mars too. its all cleaned up and looks legit too, but there's no verifiable proof.

and this is the internet. its serious business.

How do you know that you're not partially color blind and what you call red is actually blue to everybody else?

The two sides are as follows: one side believes that the universe is knowable, observable, rational, and understandable, the other side believes that the universe isn't any of those things.

I believe that there are facts that exist apart from me, independent of my observation of them, that I can rely on.

The conspiracy theorists end up in never-ending circles because they cannot accept that fundamental premise.

When the X-Files said, "The Truth is Out There", they were actually making a fundamental epistomological point, far from what conspiracy theorists believe.

As far as books go, delve into Thomistic Realism.

you wouldnt believe how many times I've asked that same question. how do any of us know that the color we see as blue, that thru someone elses eyes wouldn't be red, or green, or whatever?

except the two sides aren't as black and white as you think they are, yes, there are extremists, but look back not even 100 years when people were suggesting multiple dimensions, p-branes, m-branes, string theory, relativity, etc. go back even farther and the earth was the center of the universe and flat (some people still believe that one... there's a thread on it somewhere).

we've never proven the existence of multiple dimensions other than the 4 we know, but it is nearly completely accepted in the astrophysical world that they do exist.

what I'm saying is that while some people take theories to the extreme, more times than not, there is a glimmer of truth underlying the layers of disbelief. the only downside is that its so covered by people tooting their own horns trying to force you to believe their perceived reality. but who are we to question their knowledge?

what if fundamental scientific concept you knew in the world was based on a lie?

and because I'm a smartass....

Science would enable me to handle that, adjust and revise accordingly. That's the nature of science.

But your bias shows in with the word "lie", just like the other poster "if we went to the moon". It implies a human agent acting with malicious motives. And that is most certainly unscientific, but it is grist for the mill for conspiracy theorists (as opposed to those with just muddled thinking).

As far as "multiple dimensions", these are constructs of human thought which help us to understand reality. Reality exists independent of the theories we use to understand it.

For example, there is no such thing as an actual infinity. The number of stars and atoms in the "universe" is finite. But we can do math with "infinities" and it is very enlightening to do so. Also, "zero" does not exist - it is a concept of the human mind. But it is very useful to have such concepts when trying to understand the universe.
