cell phone unlock doors?

Not sure if it has been brought up but wondering if this would work.
Someone said they locked their keys in their car. (a mustang ) they called home and some one used the spare key fob over the phone while the held his cell phone up to the car and it opened. Just wondering if this possible and does it work off of sound waves? Before I go out and try it i wanted to make sure my chain is not being yanked!

Thanks in advance!

your chain is being yanked. This "urban myth" or whatever you want to call it has been going around for years now. It does not work. I've never actually tried it but know that others have and failed. I think they might have even tried it once on myth busters if i remember correctly.

I was thinking the same as I am sure i would have heard of this method before then.

I can just see everyone one looking out their office windows watching me hold up my cell phone up to the car. "man he is crazy, now he letting his car talk on his phone"

Thanks!

HOWEVER, if you have a smartphone.....there is an ap that will do it.....Chevy even has a commerical about it.

its an ONSTAR ap.....found the video, but I am not for sure if its available for our car. but it would a very handy feature.

It doesn't work on the 2010's but it works on the 2011/2012.

I've used the remote lock a couple times. I'll walk a ways away from my car and think "ah crap, did I lock the car?" then i'll just open the app and send the lock command. Pretty damn handy.

They tried the Cell Phone thing on Mythbusters and it didn't work. They also tried where people open the car door with a hole they cut into a tennis ball, and that doesn't work either.

The cell phone thing (with another key fob) sounds like it would make sense that it would work though, but clearly the best option is if you have the OnStar app on your phone.

Added Drive and Steering buttons should probably be on the works for the 2012 Generation cars.

Wow. Won't 'work' because it works on RF. Might as well try to get on your wireless network at home by calling your house and putting your laptop next to the phone at the hotel.
Jeeze.

It is a radio single correct how could a radio single travel that far first off? Also states in owners manual the fob is only good up to 90 feet i think.

i love the onstar app and mychevy app
