Any way to know if I have TPMS installed without removing tires?

I am just installed some new OEM 20" wheels that I bought off ebay. They had tires installed when I got them and the owner is not sure if they have sensors or not. I tried the TPMS relearn method as described in the manual with no luck. So my question is, is there a way to tell if the TPMS are installed without removing the tires? I dont want to buy a set of TPMS and have the them installed just to find out I have TPMS installed already and waste more money. Any ideas?

If the relearn procedure did not work than you probably do not have the TPMS sensors.

I feel like I may have been doing it wrong even though it is pretty straight foward.. I set it to learn and went to the front driver tire and used a key to release air from the tire for about 20 sec. but did not hear any "chirp" like described in the manual. Does that sound like I did it right?

That sounds right. When you clicked relearn on the DIC, did the screen change? It should say something like "30 seconds to relearn" or something similar.

Hmmm, I would maybe try it again. When releasing the air from the tire you don't want it to come out super fast. Nice and slow, I just use my fingernail to depress the pin thingy a tiny bit.

Stop by a tire shop and see if they have a TPMS scanner tool. Mine will beep and flash the lights on the tool if if senses a sensor inside the tire. It helps identify the frequency/type of sensor.

Mystery solved.. There are no sensors in the tires. I took the car down to a tire shop and they couldnt detect them. Just to make sure I had them remove one of the tires from the rim. Need to buy some sensors now .
