This is what i do not want to hear:
"We're sorry sir, the price went up while your car was in the production line. You now have to pay $xxxx.xx over what we agreed on".

Any thoughts? Dealers?
The cut off date for pre-orders was March 16th... I believe anyone who placed an order after that day will have to pay an increased amount.

If it's just an increase of a few hundred like for the employee price, I don't care. If it's between a few hundred and a thousand, I'll grumble but I'll still buy it. If it's something like 3 grand, I'll have to forget about buying one new and wait a few years for a used one.

As someone that wants to actually test drive one of these before handing over the cash, I can honestly say that I fully expect the MSRP prices to actually drop in 3-6 months. That's good for me because I'm not buying until later this summer.

Why will prices drop? Because GM is just not going to magically fix all of its problems on its own in the next 60 days and will be forced into a government controlled quick bankruptcy to rid GM of its financial obligations that are dragging it under. Without that additional overhead, GM should be able to lower the prices a bit, not raise them. Or at least, that's what the logical side of my brain is telling me. I can hope, can't I?

Let me answer you with a question - Who needs more money, the guy who is in debt up to his eyeballs or the guy who just declared bankruptcy?

Chevrolet will announce revised 2010 model year Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices and Destination Freight Charges effective with vehicles produced on or after April 1, 2009. These increases will impact Camaro. Dealer invoice amounts will increase accordingly. Dealer discounts remain unchanged.

Dealer price schedules will be available in GM Dealerworld under Sales &/Or F&I Tabs effective April 1, 2009. Reference administrative message #VSF20040006 (dated February 26, 2004) for more information regarding this web site.

Sold order price protection eligibility dates are dictated by the customer and dealer order dates as follows:

-Customer order date must be prior to the date of the price increase.

-GM systems order date (date dealer enters in GM system) must be no more than one work day after the date of the price increase.

These units will be invoiced at prices in effect at the date of production; however, the dealer open account will automatically be credited for the price increase once the unit has been delivered.

Generally, fleet orders are invoice price protected (i.e., bid center FBC order types, VQ orders). All other fleet orders will be price protected according to the bona fide sold retail price protection policy above. Refer to the price protection effective date on the invoice.

This pricing information is intended for use by authorized Chevrolet dealers and should not be disclosed to unauthorized persons. Chevrolet reserves the right to discontinue or change prices at any time, without written notice. All rights reserved. General Motors proprietary information to be used by authorized Chevrolet dealers, fleet operations, bailment operations, and General Motors wholesale personnel for Chevrolet vehicles. This information shall not be reproduced for or disclosed to third parties without the expressed written permission of Chevrolet General Motors Corporation.

Please file this administrative message with your 2010 model year pricing information.

It is anticipated that this pricing information will be available in the Order Workbench Configure a New Vehicle process at 8:00AM EST Thursday, April 9, 2009.

The revised pricing will be reflected in GM AutoBook which will be available on Thursday, April 9, 2009.
So what is it? when you placed the order at the dealer or when chevy entered it into their system?

That would be the guy that's up to his eyeballs in debt. Simply due to the fact that he still has an obligation to pay all of the debt back. Get out of bankruptcy alive and, depending on the terms, most of that obligation just disappears, hence the need for less cash.

Honestly, I seem GM coming out of this on the other side of bankruptcy without the financial weight of retirees' pensions and healthcare, plus drastically restructured UAW/CAW contracts. The only nagging debt will be that which it owes the government. US taxpayers will shoulder the bulk of taking care of the retirees pensions and healthcare. In a post-bankruptcy world, GM will be able to better compete in the market, rather than watching marketshare slip away year after year because they can't get their prices lower due to the fixed financial costs that have been burdening them.

Take the bread and butter category of mid-sized sedans, GM is getting hammered on price alone when compared to the base models of Toyota, Honda, and even Ford:

Base Retail Price (MSRP)
Malibu LS $21,605
Accord LX Sedan $20,905
Camry 5-Spd MT $19,145
Fusion I4 S $19,035

What is driving GM's higher prices? Their financial legacy obligations. If GM can get out of bankrupcty without those additional fixed costs, they could litterally drop the prices by $1500-$2000 across the board. Lower MSRP would put them on a better playing field with the competition and probably cut back on the number and size of incentives needed to move the cars. This is what I'm hoping will happen with the Camaro. Maybe not such a big drop in MSRP but a little bit.

I can hope, can't I?

I am not willing to spend an extra $5000 if there are dealers all over who are selling at MSRP.

So I called my dealer since I wont be getting my until their next allocation which is fine, I just was curious about this price increase and he didn't know anything about it and couldn't say until GM releases the information to them. He did also say no price is gauranteed until your car is actually pulled into the production stage anyways. I know the printout I got said at the very bottom

" North American Order Workbence is intended solely for business use by GM dealers. Pricing shown is for illustration purposes only. Refer to GMPricing.com for official GM Price schedules. GM pricing is subject to change by GM at anytime, without notice."

So in MO you may want to get something in writing that yours is price protected. Until its built price is subject to change.

Unhappy

Ok first I hear before the 4/1 we are protected. Then I read it's 3/15. When I placed the order on the 27th the dealer told me the car might be an extra 5k. It really wasn't determined yet.I told him forget it if that is the case. After he made is customery walk back to someone behind the gray curtian he came back with me not having to pay the extra 5k. Order was placed,I gave him the 1K deposit and now I wait. I called him today and he had not heard of any price increase scheduled for 4/9. He said he'll keep track and if something changes he'll inform me. That's what I'm going to have to go on here. Some of you all have great info. Build sheets/work bench sheets. I haven't a clue what or where to get all this info your getting. I've orderd 2 other vehicles,1 from saturn and 1 from pontiac over the last 3 yrs. All I did was place the order, put down a deposit and waited. Maybe to much info isn't always a good thing. I want my camaro like the rest of you,but I'm going crazy reading all these posts....ahhhhhh

i think im just going to wait a few months, and test drive it first, and by that time it should be fairly easy to find one without the MSRP markup, if anything they should be willing to negotiate and drop the price some....after the initial demand is meant... and it starts to mellow out some. if i have waited this long i can wait that extra 3-6 months to get a good decent price break. waiting an extra couple months wont kill me...............its not the end of the world...............lol..........and i will be laughing at all you who paid MSRP and plus.....=)
