Never had any problem getting a test drive. I call first, talk to the fleet manager. I also do not F around, I do my research, know what I want. So, by the time I am at the dealership and wanting to test drive, I am ready to order. I would imagine the dealerships have a lot of people that just want to come "play" with the new toys.

You drove yourself to a mustang. If you really wanted a Camaro then you would have checked out a dealer that wasn't an ass. Believe me, Ford has plenty of ass-wipe dealers too.

I had to go to THREE dealers before they would lets us drive a Camaro, and we bought it at the dealership that let us drive it. So the other two lost out.

My friend and His Fiancé went in to the dealer and inquired about the convert. Asked to test drive it. They said no you can drive the LT/RS we have out on the lot. He left went to the Ford dealer, they threw Him the keys to a brand new 5.0 and said don't wreck it. A salesmen didn't even go with them. It's too bad really because I think they would have really liked the Camaro more.

Back when the Camaro first came out, dealers around here lost their minds as well and wouldn't let you test drive. That quickly changed as the cars started stacking up on the lots. The funniest excuse I heard was "we don't want to put any miles on them because collectors are buying them to store them". I actually laughed at the salesman that said that and said "good luck with that; the guys buying a Camaro for garage candy aren't going to be buying that 1LT". And even at first when the cars started stacking up on the lots, the same dealers were trying to still sell at MSRP or above. I heard "we can sell it to dealers in Chicago for $5000 over sticker" And then when I'd stop in a few weeks later and it was still on their lot and I'd ask why it wasn't in Chicago, they would get all defensive. Anyway, my experience in finding and buying my Camaro led me 120 miles from home to the only reputable dealer within a couple of drive I could find.

OP congrats on the new car. Don't let the Chevy diehards razz you too much. I abosolutely love Chevy, have always drove, worked on and raced Chevy's, but the Mustang is a good car (my wife drives one).

I'm in NJ as well. I'm surprised those dealers wouldn't let you drive the car. I would recommend Oasis Chevrolet in Old Bridge. They have a shit ton of Camaro's on their lot.
