V6 Ride too Firm?

After reading some independent reviews, I'm just wondering if the V-6 is sprung too hard? I can understand having a firm suspension on the V-8 for the performance-oriented person....But shouldn't GM offer a much more comfortably-sprung version for the many of us aging folks with back problems, who don't need to go 90 mph around clover-leafs, but want a cool, but comfortable-riding Camaro? I would guess even without back issues, the average V-6 customer would prefer a comfortable ride over race-track prowess.

(One reason I must test drive before buying is back issues.....Had a 98' Ford Ranger 4X4, and it killed my back......Reviews of Camaro last fall seemed to indicate ride was decent, but now I'm reading otherwise....)

From what I gather it is a pretty comfortable ride good to go for long trips. That being said I think you should definately try it out 1st with your back. Everyone is different, so I would make sure that it was not a problem for you. GL and hope it works for ya!

Thanks. Yes, as much as I was chomping at the bit to preorder, a test drive is in order, I'd say.....Sure miss the good old days of jumping dirt-bikes with reckless abandon...lol

Sport/Comfort Suspension Package Options?

Why not offer the V-6 buyer option of sports suspension, or comfort suspension? That would definitely boost sales and satisfy everyone. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I sure liked the South Padre Beaches! Went there in 83' and even rented some 3-wheelers to ride on beach dunes....that's something you sure can't do it Florida!

Thanks for the insight. I'll keep my fingers crossed....Sounds like the 18" rims with higher side-walls would be the way to go for better ride, but those 20" rims look so much better....what a dilemma

it was an RS and it was very smooth, im sure the 18 or even the 19s would be very good. Actually i have never been in one with the 19s, but im sure those would be great!

I think you can at Dayonta but it is too commercial for me. I'm not real sure but it was a hard beach. One of my favorite beaches to go to is Treasure Isle on the 4th of July. They have a Pirate ship come in from the Gulf of Mexico and do a big fight and dig for treasue.........the kids had a blast. The year I went there Desert Storm was going on and they had color sand sculpures and they were colored sand........pretty amazing what they can do with those things.

The best fishing on a pier would be Mytle Beach for me. I hung into a couple of sharks.........one about 7'long who when I was catching it everyone asked me what I was fishing for and I told them I didn't know I was from Ky. My bait was bigger than most people (at least a ft long) were using and I waited for an hour or so but man when it hit I had it coming up out of the water on it's tail.........everyone around me was just watching that thing. My buddy who's family went with mine said my eyes were big as saucers and he wished he had a camera. I must have given it too much slack and it came up under the pier and went around a pole holding the pier up and broke an 80# test line. I also snagged another one about 5' long a little later but it's against the law to land on when you are on the pier........at least that is what I was told.

The ride of the 1LT with the 18" base wheels is not harsh or hard at all. It is nicely controlled and firm. IT IS softer than the SS and it is very apparent driving the cars back to back.

Now if you were to get a 1LT with RS getting the 20" wheels, you would get a firmer ride than the 18" wheels, but still no more than equal to the SS.

The ride on the 1LT with 18"s is all day comfortable. Yes it is sporty so don't think it's a boat. But not the same as the SS, it is tuned completely different.

Funny enough, the same reviewers would probably rave about the base 3 series Bimmer ride which is just as firm if not more so ...

.

I agree with Daytona, I drove my car on the beach there and there are too many kids and people that just run across the beach without looking...
Treasure Isle is my favorite place to stay in Fla. I have never had a bad vacation there...

Back on topic.. I think you will be happy with the ride on any of the V6 cars. Everyone seems to praise how well it absorbs potholes and believe me I hit a bunch last week on the way to Myrtle beach in our Sky.. I was wishing we already had the Camaro..... North Carolina and South Carolina's Interstates are in terrible shape...
