Can you prove what you say? Do you work for them?

Worse, a data center (probably a shitty one) which could potentially be hacked. Similarly to Playstation Network being hacked. Revealing lots of personal information.

Why don't you fellas who don't care about your privacy stay out of these threads since it doesn't matter, and let the folks who do care stay up to date as the stories progress?

Looks like this story has an end already, but even still- you guys need to just STFU and

This thread should be good, if not epic.

Why . He talks like he really knows. Just wondered where he gets his info. It's a real shame when you get kicked for asking a simple question or two.

Dang... I imagined they had a room where they tracked all of us. Much like this scene from War Games.

On a serious note... I am glad they changed it.

It's often the scenario of .. let's see what we can get away with. Hmm... they didn't like that. Plan B it is.

lol, onstar sucks :P

but seriously, I'm glad they changed their policy. It was clearly one meant for marketing purposes only. They didn't still keep the most important feature active (crash response) but they still tracked your car's usage. It was clear that they only did it for profit, otherwise they could've at least given unsubscribed users the reach around per say and given them automatic crash response to say, "hey we care if you die, we're not just out to make a profit" Obviously non life threatening services should remain on a subscription only service such as vehicle theft tracking and disabling as well as navigation. but anyway... It would've been easier to swallow if they had thrown in some value added bonus to those who they were tracking for marketing purposes somehow.

I never said I can't understand why someone minds being tracked, just like I don't like getting emails for herbal viagra, and get rich quick schemes, some do care and some don't.

My issue was the extreme take on it, that this was now the government tracking you, watching you, OnStar ratting on you, Insurance companies following you etc. If that were really true, then this post wouldn't exist because they would not have stopped it.

You see how quickly it got squashed, and the reason is exactly what I said, they want to MAKE MONEY any way they can, if they could have gotten away with this they would have sold the marketing data and made money, instead they see it pissed off their customers and they would be losing current and future subscriptions, so they got rid of it.

All they care about is people writing them that $300 check every year, or the even bigger check a marketing company would write to them. They could give a crap how fast you're going, where your office is, or how often you stop off at your mistresses house.

Finally some logic around this situation. All the data that would be pulled from your car would not be specific to you. Even if the data was sold...lets say to an insurance company. The insurance company might take that data and want to find out as a sports car category what the ratio of accidents were for example.

Or maybe sent to emergency organizations to find out the statistics of 911 calls in a given area via On-Star. As stated via Rogue Leader they dont care who you are. Its all aggregated data to them.

So take the tin-foil hats off.
