I was just on my lawnchair enthusiast forum and some was posting how s Camaro ran over his favorite chair......the owner of the chair sounds as upset as you are.

Sucks to hear about your car. I was changing lanes once on I75 in MI and met up with a bale of hay... I feel your pain.

No. DOT is only responsible if the know about something and don't fix it. For instance if there is debris (chair) in the road and someone calls it and they go out to get it and some one hits it in the mean time... No. If someone calls it in and no one does anything about it... maybe. Your have to file a claim with the courts... Takes a LOOOOOONG time to get anything, if you even do. It's usually not worth it.

OP... Sorry, that stinks!! File a comprehensive claim and move on. It won't raise your rates as it was not safetly avoidable. Make sure you tell you insurance that... NOT SAFETLY AVOIDABLE. Something happen to me with a chunk of steel. You will be responsible for your deductible but youre looking at about $1000 repair. Mine was $700 but I didn't need a new bumper.

I'm kind of regretting calling my insurance now. She made a point to say "we're legally obligated to tell you that this might affect your rates" I have USAA, been with them for years
