The week before I got my car I was driving my truck and I was following a guy moving That had a matress in the back of his truck. I guess he was going a little too fast cause the matress caught wind and flipped right over top of me. Thankfully it ended up on the side of the road not in the middle of it. Could of cause alot of damage. Hope you get her fixed up pretty soon.

Sorry for the delay, but it was a crazy weekend for my bachelor party and stuff. Anyway...

USAA said they can "cancel" the claim if I decide to fix the bumper myself. But I need to provide them the quote etc for them to fix it. The first shop I went to on friday afternoon wants $1200 for everything. Gonna go after work and get one more.

I'm thinking that if it's gonna be around $1000, I'll claim it, take the $500 (after deductable) and get a front lip like xxx posted earlier. Should pocket about $250.

eBay

I saw a used front bumper, primed on eBay for only $149 starting bid. Can't be that many people who hit lawn chairs (lol) so you might get this one cheap. It's item: 230679544200

Same - saw some on eBay the other night for like $400 painted/free shipping. Man, and I was just pissed about taking off a front license plate bracket! Sorry about your luck - I hit a cinderblock once in an MR2 doing about 75 on I-75. Not good. I can see where a lawn chair could definitely f up your happy day.

They said that the "under writer" is who will decide, after the claim is filed with the body shop. BUT not until my policy is up for review in December.

So if I DO go ahead with the repairs, and that ball starts rolling, I cant say no later and do it myself. Nobody could tell me YES or NO if my rates would change... it's only re-evaluated when the policy is renewed.

Yeah... I bought the Stillen Lip and a new lower grill. I'll just do it myself and tell USAA to close this 'ish. $250 and some time and paint in my garage is much more worth it...

I came around a curve in my Grand Prix GXP at 65+ and found a machinist tool box exploded in the road. I dodged the box, claw hammers, and found the sockets all over the side lane. I felt the car actually lift up as I rolled onto these BB's, and slide sideways and narrowly missed sliding right off the road, before I came back down onto the pavement and traction. Right side had no guard rail, and a nasty drop off....

At night, wife and I encountered a brown ottoman in the road on our honeymoon, driving north of San Francisco somewhere near Redwoods National Park.

Just like medical treatment - they really don't know. Went in for a heart test EP study one day, got a bill three weeks later for more than my 2SS/RS vert cost: $56,000.00. But I don't think anyone I could have asked actually knew what it would cost. Fortunately insurance covered most, and my heart is still beating. Though seeing the bill almost stopped it, LoL!!

wmlunt, was that on Rte 3? My wife had a screen door almost hit her one day - blew off a truck. Wicked.

So sorry about your car. I am glad that you are alright and were able to get some reasonably priced parts and can repair it yourself.

I had a Catera several years ago. I was driving along the highway at 70 miles and hour. I was locked in my lane with cars on both sides of me and in back. As I came around the bend there was a shovel in the road. It must have fallen off of a gardeners truck. I hit it and it shredded my tire. I am lucky that that was all that was damaged. I maintained control of the car and felt lucky to be alive. One just never knows when something will turn up in the road.:party0048:

A good body shop can plastic weld and repaint your nose. I had it done on my winter Buick and it came out un-noticable.

Check Ebay for the bumper, you'll be surprised at what you can find on there. We carry aftermarket grills from Street Scene that you can use.
