Question Thus spake Zarathustra. A question of philosophy.

For the readers amongst us, which philosopher or philosophers do you most admire and/or find their philosophy closest to your own? Or perhaps, which has influenced your life in a meaningful way?

Don't let the thread title throw you; yes, that is a work by Nietzsche yet his world view is to me rather unattractive.

I have long fancied several. These are not necessarily in order of importance to my understandings of philosophy:
Diogenes of Athens
Democritus of Miletus
Archimedes of Syracuse
Donatien Alphonse François monsieur le marquis de Sade of France
George Bernard Shaw of England
Jean-Paul Sartre of France
Karl Marx of Germany
Emile Durkheim of France
Leon Trotsky of Russia
Ernest Mandel of Belgium

How 'bout you?

Not necessarily a philosopher, but I have always been a fan of Kurt Vonnegut. The man did have ideas though, to say the very least about him.

I've found a lot of gems in the speculative science of futurist and author Robert Heinlein (1907 - 1988).

Emmanuel Kant, Edmund Burke, John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, even Machiavelli. I consider Steinbeck to be an under appreciated writer/philosopher.

Let me also add that King Solomon is the only philosopher who has ever answered the question "What is the meaning of life?"

In Ecclesiastes, he expounds on the condition of man and the meaning of life.

In Proverbs, he gives practical wisdom for everyday living and relating to others.

In Song of Solomon, he explores love in all it's facets.

And he does all that in a concise, yet poignant way.

No other philosopher even comes close to covering the breadth of the human condition, let alone answering the questions of life.

I have, but I worry that in translation much has been lost. Did you read it in the original Sanskrit? If so, is it more or less difficult to learn than other languages and alphabets?
