problem with VIN number on the windshield!

the other day i was checking out how the vin number is placed on my mom's car and my car. when i got to my car i noticed something was wrong. the right side appears to be falling down and u can see a bunch of string and stuff behind it. u can't really tell if you're looking straight at it from above or if u take a picture without a flash. but if you angle your view and use the flash to take a picture you can see what i'm talking about.

anyone else ever notice this on their camaro? I want to take it to a dealership to get it fixed.

here's a pic. sry for the dirt and leaves.

definitely odd......not really sure how you could go abt fixing that short of the dealership pulling the whole dash either, then you've got other potential problems that could arise if they don't really pay attention to what they're doing....good luck

That is the under-dash padding that has shifted a bit and is now sitting on the VIN plate. It won't hurt a thing.

Yep trip to the dealership is the only way they will need it for a good 1-2 days as they need to remove the dash.

And, will be a pain to correct as well. Unless it's easy to get the top dash pad off.

I would try to find something to shove it back up under the dash pad. Just make sure it's soft so it don't scratch your vin tag. I would have the windshield removed before I had my dash taken out. This kinda stuff drives me nuts once I notice it on something of mine.

I'd get it fixed but I'm a stickler and I notice every imperfection in my car-- I bet you're the same way. If it's gonna drive you nuts, take it in and get them to correct it.

Id get it fixed too, looks like the same stuff under the carpet to add padding and dampen sound. I'm pretty sure its a decent sized job taking the dash off. I have service manuals back home. dunno how long itd take though.

It comes down to personal preference. I wouldn't bother with this because the way I see it, the potential for even worse problems arise. Cletus the "tech" rips your dash out and breaks about 4 clips in the process of "fixing" the issue. Now your dash rattles and you're even more pissed.

Just my 2 cents.

I would take back to dealer and ask what they think it would take to fix it. I know I want my car to look perfect. Thats why I bought a new Camaro.. Good luck.

Seems like it would be too easy for undesireables to remove vin tags if they are going to fall out.

Am I the only one here that thinks the VIN looks like it was scribbled on by a 4-year-old?

Is that some kind of feature to prevent creating fake VIN tags?
