135i wanted to race me today...

This guy in a 135i was trying to entice me into a race today but I didn't take the bait. But It does leaves me wondering how I would do. I know that my stock SS can probably easily take a stock 135i but this guy didn't sound stock. He definitely had exhaust work done but I'm not sure how much more. The car does look completely stock except for the sound. How do I stand in this fight?

The 335i and the 135i can easily achieve 400+ TQ at the wheels and run 7's in the 1/8th mile with a simple ECM swap.

If he was tryin to goad you into a race then you can rest assured he is not only crazy enough to street race, he is as well crazy enough to pay the $1,300 for the upgraded ECM from Germany. With supporting mods on top of an ECM swap should see the range of 450 TQ to the wheels. These little Germany turbo cars are quite nasty in the hands of the educated and experienced car pilot.

IMHO, he would have spanked you quite well.

PS - Glad you stuck to your principles of discipline and didn't participate in street racing. Many would have taken the risk.

EDIT: The advantage in the TQ race is better for the V8 the slower the dual begins. ie from a dig is the worst place for the small c.i. turbo car. as it is spooled up and at peak rpm and tq then the advantage is going to the turbo.

I'll admit, I really wanted to. But really had nothing to prove and risk getting my car impounded and fined...wasn't worth it. I just did some research and the 135 gets 300lb/ft @1200rpm to the crank. WOW...didn't know they were that peppy.

I had a 6spd 135i with just a piggy back (JB3) for my ECU and the car went 12.9 @ 109. I only ran map 5 of 8 and now they have tunes that hold boost better (JB4) for the M6 cars, the autos hold boost better due to the quick shift.

With a few more simple mods (FMIC, DP's, aggressive map and meth), they can go mid 12's with little trouble.

All said I really didn't want to go this route with my 135i so I switched back to the SS. My SS goes pretty good now as well (see mods in sig)...

I'm doing all I can to talk my daughter into the 135i when the used market is plentiful and i can steal a nice babied car. Then turn up the juice as she shows discipline and the ability to handle the car at the track.

Killer car and I WANNA DRIVE IT TOO!

It's that or a Sky Redline and the 2 seater is just no good when you wanna have friends ride along.

A moddded 135i walked my LS3 when it was stock. Actually, he got on it before me and I slowed his pull, but couldn't stop it, so he continued walking me.

My fiance has been bugging me about a 135 for a few weeks now but I never really looked into it. I'm not sure how much they go for on the used market but they seem to go for about 40k before TTL if bought brand new. Seems kind of pricey.

I remember seeing a 135I on SVTP that had an intake, tune and exhaust with a tire running 11.70's @ 115-116. Something in that area.

I have no doubt an SS would pull pretty decently on a Stock 135I.

If your bone stock and the 135i didnt sound stock most likely he wasn't. I would have to give it to the 135i. Most people (key word Most not all) have an idea what their car is competitive against.

Make sure you get an N54... The only real issue with all N54 BMW's is the HPFP. This is a know problem that BMW stepped up to the plate and warranty it for 120K miles. This only applies to stock cars though...

They really are sweet little cars... This was my little nasty "1"

I have a couple of videos on youtube of me racing my cousin's 135i, both 6spd manuals. My mods are listed below, he has the JB3 running map 5 or 6 something like that... well the races were very close we both had hard times hooking up off launch but he beat me 3 out of 5 races. Best times of the day were 13.2 @ 113mph for me, 13.0 @ 110mph for him. Definately a sleeper. Check out the vids on youtube I would link them here but my work PC doesn't allow youtube. Camaro SS vs 135i.
