Don't reveal that your 16 and your dad bought you a Camaro on these forums. Most, and I mean MOST people would never have had such a privilege.

To answer your question honestly I would hate to ask my parents to replace the Camaro they already bought me with.. anything. Impress your dad by telling him how much you love your car and will one day save up enough money to buy an SS (on your own).

I dont get all these V6 to V8 threads.
If its that big of a deal why did you buy the V6 to begin with?

Here is my theories:
People buy the 6 because they can't afford the 8 and they don't want to wait until they can afford it, so then they lose their ass trading in a less than one year old car for the 8.
People think there won't be a big difference between the 6 and the 8 until they get bored with the 6's lack of power/torque compared to the 8.
People weren't into fast cars until after they got the 6 and now want to go faster.

i am trying to understand why somebody would think getting a v8 camaro or any other fast sports car would be a foolish. i know my parents wont buy me a v6 camaro. and they are planning on getting me a Z06 or M3 when i get out of college. come on man, a guy in there 20s with a brand new Z06. isn't that living?

The real question is, why are you sticking quarters in your ass?

If you're 28 years old, you need to start living for YOU. So what about what your dad thinks. You're going to think about how every time you drive your V6, that you bought it because you thought your dad would think getting a V8 was a bad idea? Life is short, dude... Everyone has responsibilities in life, but if you can afford a little extra to buy something that really excites you, it's worth it because you only get one shot at your time on earth.

To the OP --

Your biggest challenge will likely be trying to convince your parents that the transaction makes any sense at all, and is at all a responsible move given your age and amount of resources, as well as your future goals.

I'm sure you can figure out how to handle the extra power, but can you explain why it is or isn't a smart financial move, or how it could potentially affect your future plans, possibly, of higher education, or getting a place of your own?

The car was a Christmas present and I didn't know about it and didn't get a say in it

Honestly not sure why you are asking people on a form if you should upgrade from the V6 to the V8 99% of the people are going to say YES do it. First and foremost can you afford the increased car payment, second have you checked to see how much more insurance will be, and third have you checked to see how much upside down you will be? If you can afford both of those do whatever makes you feel happy and forget what the people on the message board have to say last time I checked we are not your parents or your Boss.

It sounds like daddy will be paying for everything so he doesn't really care. If daddy can afford it and doesn't care about putting your life in danger than I say go for it. Just realize you will be playing with fire every time you drive.

When I was younger my mom traded me my new van for her Lexus suv. I now have a new Camaro and a Lexus and I live across the street from the beach that I work on most of the year. There is only so much my parents can take!
I used to have your job...WHEN I WAS 16!
