RS Package...DIY?
I'm wondering if buying the additional RS package is worth it?
The only reason I would be doing it is for the lights...which in my opinion...is a must for this car. But, I already get 20" alum. wheels with the SS and I'm ordering a black car so roof ditch molding and shark fin antenna should be black already to match the paint right? Can I not easily buy the stock Camaro LED/HID lights aftermarket and install myself?...anyone know the price for a pair of these headlights?....RS package is $1350 so I assume I'll at least be saving $700 or so? |

The lights alone will cost you about the same price as the whole RS package, then you have the time and aggravation of installation......may even need a different wiring harness for the HID lights??
You will save no money by DIY........

You'll see several threads on this topic. The RS is package is definitely worth it. 9 out of 10 members will say it worth it to. The headlights, spoiler(lack there of), the taillights. It all adds up. There has been several members on here that have added the HID headlights after the fact and Im pretty sure all you need other than the actual HID is a harness. Save yourself the trouble of pulling the front fascia and get the RS package. You won't be disappointed. You're already spending 35k or more, whats another 1k? You won't be disappointed

The HID lights will require a new harness.

The package is worth it. The shark fin on 2012's is body color by default anyway now. I think. The painted roof ditch molding doesn't matter for black, you're right. But either way the package is worth it if you want the look.

J. Woj....I'm really loving ur posts. I was on Chevy last night building and accesorizing and I was asking myself the very same thing. Sounds like the recommendation is that it's worth it. Thanks everyone!

Can I add to this thread and ask about the exhaust upgrade that Chevy offers as an option? Any thoughts on that? If planning to do headers/exhaust aftermarket...is there any point? Those two questions are intended to be separate and distinct. Thanks!

I didn't know know Chevy offers an upgraded exhaust? But either way, I'd say go after market for headers/cats/exhaust for sure. You can mix and match exactly how you want it to sound. There is a thread on here in the bolt on section with almost every exhaust/CAI/header combo to listen to. It's all personal perference

The RS package is worth it. Look up all that comes with the package and calculate up the cost for the individual items totaled. The items alone cost more that the package itself! The rims and tires for the RS package cost nearly the price of the package alone.
Oh I forgot, as mentioned before the lights are expensive. After market halos, imho, don't look as good as the stock ones.

Just added the RS package to my order thanks to this thread. Headlights alone are worth it imo.

the exhaust upgrade is a waste of money. You can get a whole catback exhaust for less than the price of the GM axle back.
