Well guys, although I bought my camaro in Nov 2009 it is still the same eye catcher as in 2011 !!

Camaro has the look that is designed to stay as a legend and icon forever.

Mustang since 2005 is moving around the same raw design with few minor changes.

The only difference between an 11 and 12 GT is the electric power steering now has three different "modes."

Each of these marques have a qualifying factor (or several) that caused it's owner to make that selection.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Let's all go out and burn some rubber.

someone who cites apperance as the winning factor is nothing but a noob, a disgrace to the car hobby, a wannabe car enthusiasts who should just buy a minivan and STFU.

When you are at the strip, you are spending most of your time in the high RPM range. For example, I launch at 6,000 RPM. I shift at 7,500 RPM. The largest drop between shifts is from 1st to 2nd which puts me right at 5,500.

My car is making 430WHP for roughly 1,000 RPM. When I shift I am in my peak power for almost the entire length of the track sans the 1st to 2nd shift however I am hovering right at 400WHP at the lowest RPM point.

Since I am above 5,250 RPM pretty much down the entire 1,320 that means I have to rely on HP to get me to the end.

The point I am making is that a smaller, higher revving CI motor, setup properly, can outperform a larger CI lower RPM motor.

It all comes down to how much air can be pumped through the motor. I believe your line of thought should place that into consideration.
You have hit the nail on the head albeit a little off center and are on the verge of bending the nail over. HP is all that matters when you gear the car to properly use the maximum average area of the HP curve. Again though Torque is not a performance measurement. I know I am being a little anal about this but too often I hear people say crazy stuff like "that engine is a torque monster" and then others hear or read this and misundstand what the person was trying to convey. What the person should have said is "that engine makes a lot of HP in the lower rpm range". Engines are modified air pumps and you are correct, the more volume you can move through the engine the more power it potentially can make provided the efficiency of the use of the air fuel. The more rpms you can turn that engine, the higher volume is going through it. So even a smaller displacement engine can make more HP than a larger displacement engine; sometimes with more rpms and sometimes with volumetric efficiency (the better the overall design of the 'air pump' the more power it will make).

I'll get off my soap box now about torque not being a meaningful performance measure.

I have no idea how this thread became a Mustang vs Challeger vs Camaro thing. The OP simply gave HIS impression of the 5.0. It's an opinion. Everyone could try all they want to post factual advantages of each model and 9 times out of 10 even the facts will not sway the opinion of a die hard. Each of these cars has it's own advantages and it's up to the owner to decide which one meets his needs. I am thankful that the big three are all making desireable cars like these three and therefore we all have a choice. I am a die hard Chevy person who has only driven GM products for nearly 25 years. I have raced Chevy engines most of that time and was a mechanic for about 10 years. When I was wrenching back in the 80's and 90's I swore I would never own a Ford or Dodge. But in 2009 we bought a Mustang. It took me a lot to allow myself to ignore the nameplate in the test drive to allow myself to judge that car on its performance and not the nameplate. I find both cars very stylish and each has it's advantages and am proud to own both. These 'pony car wars' are more based on if you grew up in a Blue Oval Family or a Blue Bowtie one than they are on just about anything else. I say buy what makes you smile and then quit worrying about pushing your opinion off on the guy who smiles from a different make. Then let the performance at the race tracks push the development of all makes forward. Now I am going to go jump in my smilemaker and take it on a two hour drive north and spin wrenches for a buddy who will race his small block Chevy powered modified on a 3/8 mile dirt track tonight and tomorrow. And when the dust settles, I'll drive home and brush the dirt out of my teeth and go to bed smiling because at least in this country we have three automakers that are as car and power nuts as I am.

How about we let history decide things like this? Unless you have a view to the future, you don't know how this body style will be looked back upon.

I must be in the minority, but ...
  • I think the Camaro looks great
  • the Stang looks great
  • and the Challenger looks great
And that ...
  • the SS is fast
  • the new GT is fast
  • and the Challenger RT (though a bit behind) is fast
And finally, that ...
  • the LS/LT is quick (especially with the new LFX)
  • the new V6 Stang is quick
  • the Challenger is trying hard with their new V6
Like I said, must be me ...

Thanks guys, I meant what I said.

I'm sick and tired of all the juvenile asinine "yeah, but your car sucks" crap found on so many forums today. I like ALL sharp looking performance cars, no matter what the make.

(btw, you two have some mighty nice rides. How 'bout letting me take 'em for a drive? LOL)

Motortrend got 0-60 in 5.8 and the 1/4 mile in 14.2 @ 101 mph for the new 2012 Camry(with 37 miles on the odo at an abandoned airfield nonetheless), off topic but your sig made me mention it.... that's a little too much power for Aunt "Susie" if you ask me now, haha

5.0 is good no doubt but i prefer the smoother power delivery of the LS3
