Found price
Alpine Basic Camaro In-Dash Kit (KTX-CMO) starts at $349.99
That gets you the in-dash kit for double din radios - KTX-CMO comes with the dash kit, wire harness, antenna adapter, General Motors LAN BUS adapter, and a color touch screen to operate the car’s heating/vent/air conditioner (HVAC) controls

it's because it's the same. the only difference is that the alpine kit is tailored to fit their head units better, if you look closely at both kits the face plate is different, and maybe the start up screen on the AC controls has the alpine logo at start up, I don't know about that one.

I'd like to be able to customize start up screen. Like Camaro SS logo

I read somewhere that you were going to be able to upload your own pic for the start up screen but that was so long ago and maybe just rumors

I definitely like the look of the Alpine better. In the immortal words of Wayne Campbell. Oh yes...it will be mine. Oh yes...it will be mine.

It is $400 if you want it with steering wheels controls they said so without steering wheel controls it would be cheaper.
$550 is for on star connectivity. Metra does not offer this stuff hence why it is just simple thing with just a bunch of calculator buttons for $300
It's not like this really looks much better. Don't care about onstar (not renewing it anyway) You can maintain the steering wheel controls with the metra kit as well.

I'm still contemplating my system anyway, just got the car last week. I'll let you guys test it out before I make up my mind.

I think some people must be paid metra spoke men..

Alpine could fix one thing. The big black buttons should look like these buttons

Smooth flat on the plastic like a touch screen
or atleast hard plastic like stock radio buttons..

Great sounds in Muncie, Indiana Is where i pre-ordered from $549 with onstar, If you have steering wheel controls make sure you order the KTX-CMOS, If not just get the KTX-CMO. Pacific coast parts is running a special the kit without the Onstar module for $349. Ive been told my kit will arrive no later than 11-18-11. If anyone needs phone numbers ill post them.

Alpine is NOT offering the kit with out the steering wheel adapter.

Way back, there was indeed talk of the kit being offered with various levels of the electronics packages; but they changed that.
The KTX-CMO is the only version, and it includes everything (incl. SWC interface) but the OnStar module.

And $349 seems to be a good intro price; it's what I've been doing for the local chapter C5'ers.
