who is the price protection for? The consumer or the dealer? Your rant from post #452 kinda confused me.

To me, it's the customer. I'll hold my dealer to the email GM sent out. I don't care that the dealer is not the same as GM, they'll have to work out the details with their GM contacts if there's an issue. I don't know how all this works from a dealer's standpoint but it sounds like GM reimburses the dealer for the difference in profit. Assuming GM keeps the same profit margin, that would be the same as keeping the price for the customer the same. Here's the text of the email GM sent...

Counting down the days until you can get behind the wheel of your very own all new Camaro? You're in fast company. Less than one month remains to preorder one at introductory prices.1 Be one of the first to own a true 21st-century sports car.

Which one will you choose? It's available in a V6 with 304 hp and an estimated 27 MPG highway2 or in an SS, which generates 426 hp and goes from 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds.

To preorder, download a spec sheet and then go to a local dealer to place your order. Be sure to hold your place in line before March 15, 2009.

1 Introductory pricing available only on bona fide sold customer orders submitted by an authorized Chevrolet dealer on or before March 15, 2009. See dealer for details.
Since I met the requirements of having a bona fide sold customer order submitted by an authorized Chevrolet dealer on or before 3-15, I am expecting that my price will not change. If the dealer tries to do something different, it's going to become a problem.

And again, I've got a printout from the official GM site so I expect that price to be accurate.

RPO, If I order the 21s, then I am paying for two sets of wheels (as the accessory is for the complete wheel and tire package -- not a substitute that is pro-rated). Wouldn't I either get to keep both sets or receive some credit for the wheels that are coming with the vehicle?

RPO, if i ordered a 1ss black with a sunroof MSRP w/ DFC is 31,895 and I got a letter today from my dealer signed by the owner stating the following: Your price of 31,895 is guaranteed to you no matter what the MSRP increase is. Does that sound legit? is that still the MSRP?

It sounds like if you got a letter with the price you will pay, that sounds pretty good to me.

What does your original buyer's order say?

That is the exact MSRP based upon 1SS and Sunroof.

I know very few dealers that would give you a trade values months before your new vehicle was to arrive. Book values change, condition of vehicle and mileage change.

If you don't like the trade value the dealer is giving, perhaps you can send the Silverado to KBB and they can send you a check!

So if you don't mind with your expeirience in the business, what would be your best guess as to the increase?

Not an easy question I know but would it be closer to 2000.00 or 500.00 for the SS?
I think if you have an agreed upon price sheet that shows the total for what you agreed on, then you too should be golden. You didn't agree to MSRP, you agreed to what MSRP was at the time you ordered.

I think Skyman said it better:

DO NOT let your dealer charge you the higher price if you have the early order code on your order.
My own dealer has confirmed this is and always has been their normal practice. The price the car was at the time you placed your order is the price you pay no matter what the Sticker says.
If you got your price in writing that is your price..

I know that KBB means absolutely nada!! They said they can give me around 18200 plus or minus 500 dollars. I'm happy with that! I was just stating the reason I don't have a work up other than the letter and my workbench ordersheet

I forwarded that email to my dealer (surprise, they had no clue) and they agreed that MSRP when I ordered would be what I pay.

Didn't they give you a buyer's order with all the legal terms, fees, etc. when you originally ordered the car?

no, no they did not. When I talked to the owner today he said it would be easier for everyone to wait until closer to delivery time to work up a buyers order. I have a motorcycle that until today was not sure if I was going to trade it in or not. I have it on ebay with 1 bid as of a couple minutes ago. I have a lot of variables with my buying situation. When all is said and done I am hoping I maintain the 18200 for my car and come with 11k to put down on my camaro.
