I'm sure you've never considered that the "1%" got there through hard work. No, its all about secret societies and taking advantage of the poor.
Hehehe.

The numbers man... they don't lie.

Please note the sources on those stats too.

@Taintedveins, were/are you a Poli Sci major? It's like you rattled off a list of readings from the past two years for me haha.

Very few of the current 1% got there through hard work. It's almost impossible with today's plutocracy, and most of them come from old money.

I agree with that statement, but there's a distinction to be made.

There are the top 1% people who have wealth, which includes your point above.

And then there are the top 1% of income earners, which is completely different, most of whom are no where near the top 1% of the wealthy.

People confuse the two and politicians cloud the issue on purpose.

Most of the anger is toward the 1% of the wealthy, but since we don't tax wealth (except the death tax) in this country, politicians stoke the anger toward the top 1% of income earners, who they can tax.

Big difference. Unfortunately, most people can't, or don't want, to be bothered with understanding that difference.

Taxing a guy who makes a million dollars a year running a small business that reinvests his money in that business, will absolutely kill jobs, while Warren Buffet only has to pay a larger percentage of the 100k he pays himself each year as a salary, while he sits on the rest of his pile of money tax free.

Sonny, you couldn't be more wrong. I am fifty-six years old and have taught public high school for twenty-eight years. Plus I'm charming, erudite, speak three languages daily, have a B.A. from Berkeley in 1976, and two Diplômes supérieurs from la Sorbonne in Paris (all on scholarship, of course) am active in the teachers union, et cetera et cetera. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that I'm humble?

Haven't decided on my major yet, I just have an odd interest in philosophy. I did read about my list when I was in high school. Since then I have been itching to have a class where I can discuss and read about them again. Poli Sci may be in my future though

[QUOTE=ShnOmac;3890629]Jimmy Buffett

One man's meat is another man's poison. Yet if we are looking at pop stars for philosophy, a case could definitely be made for Robert Zimmerman, otherwise known as Bob Dylan. What chu' think?
