Yeah but what your forgetting is thats the Z06 with the Z07 package and the cup tires on it. The ZL1 ran that time without cup tires. I'm sure if you put cup tires on the ZL1 it would run it very very similarly.

Many people seem to forget how big of a difference Cup Tires make.They are awesome tires. Would love to see what the ZL1 would run with the Cup Tires to make a comparison.
Not to get OT but there is a recent article in one of the car mags. MT I think.(which i mostly take their biased writing with a grain of salt) It was a Drivers Shootout with some serious cars on the list. They basically disqualified the Corvette from one of the top spots because of the Cup tires(and bad seats) It shreaded the competition on the track. Nothing was close.

But that brings up the interesting challenge of the 'ring. The Z07 ran ONLY 2 to 3 seconds behind the ZR1. Just makes me go "hmmmmmmmmmm".

Exactly why the 6th gen car needs to weigh 3400lb tops. Its weight is killing it.

For what it's worth if you look at the whole list of lap times most of the times that are faster than the ZL1 ring time are done on the "short" track which is approx. 7 sec faster than the long track. All of the faster Corvette times are on the short track. Most are still faster even after the 7 sec. is factored in. Take a look at the list it's great reading.

I would almost bet that ZL1 run was done using the "Cup Tires".

In an earlier article they made a comment about brand X being loaded in a trailer while leaving the track, when they just swapped tires and seats in the ZL1 before leaving.

Why would you swap the Eagle F1's for more Eagle F1's?

Why would you keep tires on that have been on the track all day when leaving? That is asking for a blowout, depending on how hard they were pushing it and how many runs were done.

Its wasnt done on cup tires. It was done on eagle f1's. You also have to remember running a road course like that will kill a set of tires lap after lap. When your also dealing with a prototype and wouldnt want to take the chance of it blowin a tire going home and injuring someone.

The car was trailered everywhere when not actually on the track.

The reason they changed the tires after track use was purely asthetics when showing the car. It's a real bitch kitty to get the rubber off the wheels and the car just "shows" better with fresh rubber.

Well if we cut out the rear seat and some space in the cabin, used some lighter weight materials we could do exactly that, but then we already did. It is a Corvette
