But its sooo tempting... I didn't even know they took my initial inquiry seriously, but they told me I'd pay "At most, MSRP- We'll let you take the student deduction or employee pricing if GM allows it" At least if I put money down on it, if it ends up being like more than 55k, I'll probably back out... but with all the options on it, I really fear it will be 58k or so... If I knew it was going to be like 48-52 I'd be on it I think... I think I'm going to go play the lottery. Maybe I'll win... lol.

Expect $55k... I won't talk you out of it if you can afford it.

Why be so compulsive? You're going to put money down on something when you don't know the final price? Not good (unless you're rich - are you rich?). There will always be a better car coming out. Don't over extend you finances like this. At least wait until you know what the price will be. In a year, you'll probably be able to negotiate the price down to invoice. It will likely save you $10k if you wait. Patience, my young Padawan. (how'd I do?) |

I just hate to see people get themselves buried in debt. It is so hard to get out of. I've seen it many times... young people over extending themselves and they end up paying for it for their whole life. It can affect retirement savings or their ability to buy a home. I know it sounds overly dramatic now, but it's not. Saving now will make life later MUCH easier in the long run. (I'd like a ZL1 too, but I just can't justify that when I have an SS that is a blast to drive.)

The money down is fully refundable, so its not like I'm truly locking myself into a car I dont know the price of, but you are probably right. why trade in my POS Lemon of a car to buy the car I really want when I can instead sit at home and cry myself to sleep as I get slaughtered by a GT500 in Autocross... (jk jk). (really I just would love for my SS to not be a lemon. That would be enough to make me sleep at night soundly). But isn't it my duty to my camaro bretheren to bring this other piece of the camaro family to our cruises, car shows, dinners, and races? No but seriously, you did a pretty good job. Yeah you are right... its so easy to fall into the hype... but really I just bought a lottery ticket. It cost me $1. I am riiiskkkayyy.... Some may say $1 in the lottery is a waste of money. Others will say $1 to save 55k is a heck of an investment. You made me feel like a 11 year old about to spend his piggy bank savings on a 1977 puch maxi sport that my next door neighbor has convinced me is worth $900 But then again I was that 11 year old who bought the 1977 puch maxi sport.... haha! And I do certainly understand the savings/debt issue... I try to get that through my student's heads when I teach... Thats a big deal especially for the millenial generation. I am fortunate to have no debt, except my home mortgage, but I only owe a small percentage of it's appraised value. (so realistically, trading in the camaro, my ZL1 payment would be lower than many peoples payments on their LSes, but it goes against my persional policy not to borrow money on a car) Blasted ADD... haha! No but seriously I apologize. I told you guys I wouldn't waste your time with my car buying antics until I had one in the driveway.... So pretend I didn't say anything (unless your going to be a fine positive image to me and other people of the younger generations!) No one wants to hear my personal car driving struggles... (Why couldnt I have just had a good quality SS and then I never would have started. Its like the camaro gods wanted me to go through this struggle... Can I write the book- "My personal Recession Story- The story of my struggles through ownership of a 2010 SS Camaro, a Z06 Corvette purchase disaster, and a ZL1 allocation struggle?") Think that will sell to the masses?

I was only trying to talk you out of it because you said you wanted someone to talk you out of it. The SENSIBLE thing to do is wait. However, I agree the ZL1 is a sweet car and hard to resist. The thought of buying one has crossed my mind. But my modded SS is actually, in many ways, better than a ZL1. So, I'll keep the one I have and let others get the ZL1. Maybe someday.
Is your SS still giving you trouble? |

Installed the ADM Scoop and Roto-Fab washer bottle relocate yesterday. Easy install and definitely a nice sound difference. Engine seems alot smoother moving through the lower powerband as well. Highly recommend this mod! Pics are here ... http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...96#post3929996

Yes. I've given up on it completely. I am either going to be trading it in on a ZL1 or Trading it in on a new SS or selling it and dumping 10 grand into my Fiero, and spending the rest on a new truck or something.
wait... that was ME!!! nope... I wish. I've always been a lottery hater, and I think its the dumbest thing you can do... however, I let someone talk me into playing it ONCE. I won $100. So ever since then I established my "gambling budget". I took 1/2 of the $100 ($50) and put it in my retirement savings, and I took the other 1/2 ($50) and put it in my gambling budget, which became "free money". Now any time I gamble/play the lottery/etc. I can only take out of the gambling budget money, and any time I win I have to split it 50/50 between my savings and back into that budget. That way I can't feel bad for "wasting" my money because the only reason I HAVE that money is because I won it.. haha! Quote:
haha!I got at least two people to talk me out of it, and their arguments are pretty convincing... I hate being crazy financially conservative! I did this same thing when I bought the SS lol...
