Should I port my TB myself?

I have been watching videos on how to port using dremel and it looks like I can do it. should I try it? any suggestions?

btw. never used a dremel before.

I'm not being cheap or anything since Im actually buying a dremel to do this (but its still cheaper than buying the ported tb.) I just like doing things my own.

A good dremel would be 50 bucks. Id rather pay the race shop to make sure it gets done to the best potential.

There's a big potential for it to go way wrong and leave you with needing to buy a new TB

I know I'd never try it...but thats me!

You have to remember, that even RX went through a revision or two before settling on what they have to offer now.

Short answer - no

Longer answer - NOOOOOOOOOO

Don't risk it. Put the $50 toward saving for the real thing. There's a lot that can go wrong of you slip up.

Go with the one Tracy offers it doesn't cost a lot, and does the job

DON'T DO IT.

Buy the dremel tool for what you can use it for, but cutting your on TB is not it.

If you do decide to try maybe on a scrap head or something the right tool to use for porting would be a die grinder.

I say go pick up a used head from the junk yard and hone your skills before doing it on your part first. My porting guy does this for a living and it took him over to 2 weeks to get everything right on the manifold including some wise help from another porting co.. The same with vmax, it took them a couple try to get it just right.

When they came out with what they thought would work and then tested it(yes, they stuck it on the dyno) they found that their initial attempt(s) were actually costing horsepower. It's more than just polishing it up and cleaning it out. The walls inside are left semi-rough for a reason.
I've done heads and intake manifolds, there's more to a TB or carb. Before you do it, check out what a new TB would run you and you can have an idea if you're really willing to run that risk.

I'm not expecting any increase in hp. but I think I feel some lagg and some people think this might help.

I'm willing to take the risk. but I will first practice on something else.

life is boring without taking risks.
