Inside Line says: Look for the ZL1 to arrive in Chevy showrooms early next year, priced from just over $50,000.

2012 Camaro ZL1 , Car and Driver is speculating that the supercharged street missile will land a staring price of $47,000, according to its sources. That undercuts the price of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 by nearly $2,500 — as the Blue Oval’s pony commands a higher base price of $49,495. However, the Ford does not get hit with the $1,300 gas-guzzler tax, whereas the Cadillac CTS-V — from which the ZL1 borrows its LSA engine and magnetic suspension system — does.
Contrary to what Car and Driver is saying, Scott Settlemire (a.k.a. the “Fbodfather”), who is currently involved with marketing on the Camaro Team, questions the publication by asking them how they can price the car, especially when “pricing is always one of the last things done on a car.” If we had to throw in a guess, we would wager a starting price somewhere between $47,000 and $50,000. |

i think it will be 50k or less... its still a chevy... and american cheap car... its not luxury and wont last longer then 10 years american build there cars cheap to sell cheap... more time and though go into european cars bc they know that they will last... its AMERICAN... means less quality... but dont get me wrong i love american innovation though... taking cheap things and making them work against competitors... thats what is mean by Chevy Runs Deep...

here's another fact and this is how the market will play in affect... if this car goe for high 50's or mid 60's then they know ATLEAST 50% of the allocations will be backing out... trust me.. its going to happen... and chevy knows this... so they wouldnt do it... if they go mid 50's bout 20% will back out... educated guess here... but roughly that.. many will cough up the extra couple thousand... i will... chevy can sell at low 50's and make good profit why? its gaurenteed bc they know people will pay this much bc they read forums like this and we all agree to them... it would be a smart marketing trick to sell for less to sell more to increase popularity and profit... which ultimately creates more revenue and sales... we drives zl1's people see it and want it... more sales... we adertise there products... you cant do that if they just sit in a lot... MAREKTING... its so simple really... so i EXPECT this car to sell around 49-52k depending on options... end of story...

Agreed! Last time I checked, only 40-50 out of the 49,867 C5 members have even pre-orderd a 2012 ZL1, of the 3000 to be made.

I'll show you what the price will be. In this diagram the vertical component is the profit margin for GM on sales of ZL1s. The horizontal component is the price per unit. The graph's bell curve demonstrates that as prices rise, so too does profit - until the price point is reached where demand for the product is diminished by it's price. The point at the top of the curve represents the most efficient price point, and that number is the one we'll hear next week.

![]() Speaking of obnoxious european members, I have yet to see a 300,000 mile BMW or Mercedes that didn't look like the wheels were about to fall off. I can tolerate a few creaks and rattles if it means I saved 40 GRAND! EDIT: "116" so it has gone up, but my point remains the same. |

No, GM never claims to build cars on par with Mercedes. Nor do they price their cars like they do. The cars last generally the same amount of time, I can live with a few rattles and cheaper leather to save 40K.
