Top End Speed??

Has the top end of these cars been proven yet??

Tire speed ratings usually sets the maximum speed that the computer will allow before shutting the engine down. The SS has 180 mph speedo and P-Zero Pirelli rubber, but I'll guess that speed is limited somewhere around 140-150.

Anybody know the answer??

Also ...

V6 with 18" tires (1LS & base 1LT) are limited to 118 MPH.
V6 with 19" (2LT base or opt. 1LT) and 20" (2LT / 1LT w/RS) are limited to 155 MPH like SS.

It is electronically speed limited @ 155mph because of the tire ratings, so no one really knows what the top speed is without the limiter. I'm guessing around 170-175 mph.

I'm not interested in going that fast. I'm up for excess spinning of tires and maybe a couple of 1/4 mile runs.......at the track!!

FYI: At one time Pirelli P-Zero's were the only pasenger car tire approved for speeds up to 210 MPH for open road racing, like the Silver State Chalenge in Nevada. Not sure now. I just received the current rules & regulations for this season about a month ago, but have not read them yet.

I would think it would go faster than 175... I might be wrong. in my 00 camaro I had the speed limited taken off and it had 180 on the speedo and it went past that so i dont know how fast i was goin other than it was over 180

Dumb I know.

But it was fun as ... well you know.

There is some variation in results, but most tests show the SRT8's to be drag limited at 173MPH.

Jeeps not included.

As of now, I'm not sure if it was limited or not, but the SRT8 Challenger tops out at around 173, Sleestack is right. My guess, if you pull the limit off of the Camaro SS, I would guess it could at least top this, and possibly do the full 180 that the speedo indicates. From the looks of it, the Camaro is more aerodynamic that the Challenger, so I believe it could go a bit faster.

It either wasn't stock or it didn't do 180. The 4th gens were a little slicker but didn't have enough power to go that fast. The 5th gen should be topping out at 180-185 if you remove the limiter and want to risk your tires (or get new high speed ones)
