you guys are calling me a troll, and i'm not even saying catch cans are worthless. i'm simply saying GM engineers have their angle and so do resalers of the product. let's see some side-by-side comparisons and then have a discussion. the criticism is really immature. Quote:
it is no statement. it's just saying "hey, someone else has a different opinion that sounds reasonable, what do you guys make of this?" i never said in my original post that i agreed or disagreed, just that i found an opposition that seemed certainly feasible. I am game for that. I will do it. I am going to order one tomorrow and get it asap and see what I can collect....
edit... I am already at that same mileage......but I'll still put it on then see how much oil i collect in another 4100 miles Edit 2: What would the difference be of cleaning the intake manifold and running with the can installed as opposed to a car from day 1 with no miles on it and a can installed. I just don't see a difference there. If you clean the intake and install a catch can then put on another 1000-4000 miles on the car you are still going to see a difference I am thinking. |

cool, thanks. maybe take a pic before the install and then a few hundred/thousand miles after? can whatever that is in your intake now be soaked up so we really tell what the catch can didn't necessarily catch?

I just hope its not too difficult to take the intake off to clean it out after i take pics then put it back on. I assume i need new gaskets like on an old style chevy engine when you take an intake manifold off and put it back on.

I can imagine right now it is oily. I want to clean it and install the CC and then drive another 4100 miles and see what is in the intake. I just hope its not too much of a pain in the A to pull the intake manifold and put it back on..my car is my daily driver.

You can use seafoam in the spray can and cleanout the intake without taking it off.May not get all but most. I did it to my Z28. But read up on it and decide for yourself if worth it.

i'm with you here. the oil in the catch can and then the pictures we see of oil in the intake on this forum are not from the same car or mileage. it's hard to really gauge the catch can's capabilities from this.

Well I want to do this to close this case for once and for all. I'd like to do another 4000 miles because I have gotten it this far. But that was almost 3 months of driving. Everyone isn't going to want to wait 3 months for a test. Maybe 30 days? |

hrmm...maybe take a pic inside the TB of the intake, then soak it up with a towel attached to a wire hanger. then install the catch can, wait X miles and repeat. you take off your car's plastic intake to gain access to the TB, then just lift the TB valve open. this is all speculating...i've not done it on the LS3.

Anyway, this was your "research" that "showed" these cans were worthless IIRC...

I haven't gone deep into my car. Only remove the stock intake ducting and filter box and install my CAI cold air ducting
