I wouldn't call a winner until both cars make it to a dyno, and get a few passes under their belts. Tale of the tape says the GT500 is the clear winner, but we all know that is not how it usually goes.

That being said if the 500 makes it into production equipped as advertised it should be king of the street and GM's only offering to challenge it may be the ZR1

Still not going to offer this stuff as standard... seems silly to me.

"First sales are scheduled to start by next summer, and Ford plans to launch two new packages for the car. Available as part of the optional Performance Package, SVT-designed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers are accessed on the dash with a simple push of a button, which allow between comfort and sport modes. A Torsen limited-slip differential also comes with this Performance Package.

Customers can upgrade their Performance Package with an additional Track Package. The option comes with an external engine oil cooler, rear-differential cooler and transmission cooler for further durability."

It's funny watching some people write off the ZL1 and act completelt awestruck by this car when as far as anyone can tell the only significant difference between this model and the prior model is the additional horsepower. is that the only thing that makes a car great?

The ZL1 has some really amazing technology that the GT500 seriously lacks. The gap could be bridged based on the price difference between the 2 cars. The price difference between the cars people are throwing around is about $7K.

If Chevy decides to participate in one-upsmanship with Ford they have a lot of dollars to invest to make the price difference. Say they take $4K of that and put it into the motor and $3K of that invested into a weight savings program.

In the end you would have similar power and weight numbers and the ZL1 would have a much better car built on that.

I'm still on the fence about that until I see some gear ratios... besides if they are too tall, they will have the opposite effect and will actually hamper acceleration especially in gears 3-6.

But maybe that is why they had to try 30 combos of gear sets.

Please stop with the disinformation campaign and get your facts straight. People on C5 have been consistently saying that one of the GT500's main problems is its inability to use its power to the rear wheels effectively.

Wrong again. As the adage goes, it's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. Read the many reviews of the GT500s and they mention the GT500's inability to make effective use of its power.

After thinking about it for a couple hours I think that the GT500 really won't effect the sales of the ZL1. I expect the ZL1 to still out sell the GT500 due to demographics. Most of the people buying these cars will never track them any ways. The ZL1 is still a better looking car and may be cheaper. Performance wise the ZL1 will get murdered, it's simple math. I think it will still be more popular because it was sustained it's "it" car status for so long and even the though the GT500 will be "all new", it still is an old car. Obviously the fanboi's will choose their sides.

Well literally every auto magazine will put these cars together in a comparison. There will be more than enough data for a decade of bench racing I can't wait.

Who is to say that the 2013 ZL1 won't have 651HP just to beat the stang lol. All these magazines that do these comparisons do different years, and not the same years. 2011 mustang vs 2010 camaro. 2012 mustang vs 2011 camaro... Hey dumbass magazine people, you know in 2012 they changed the mustang but in 2011 they didn't change the camaro. Thats comparing a banana to carrot.... Doesn't WORK!!!

Back and forth back and forth... It's good to be an auto enthusiast right now... Now let’s see what ford does with their traction issues…

If you ask me, not really. Why add on parts to car when most people won't utilize them? You don't need addional performance parts on a car that go to and from work like I see most GT500 owners do.

Hmmmm well it is a good point.

Stock for stock the ZL1 should be able to take the GT500 at a road course if they are not going to include those items.

But who really knows.... We really dont know much about either cars track performance at this point!
