Well look at how people felt that owned 67' and 68' camaros when the 69' came out. it will always get better. I am getting mine now. You can never know what the future may hold. Just like the Synergy green Camaro tons of people liked it but there are not a lot who bought it. Even after they put a V8 in it. It will still be fast and hot. So we need to enjoy it now because this is a great time to be involved in the muscle car era. History is repeating. I was not alive for the first one but I will enjoy and take advantage of this one so my children can enjoy them when I am gone.

Joe Ewanick (vice president of GM’s marketing): “We should take a Camaro, Ford brings a Mustang, we each pick our drivers, and see who has the best time on the Nuremberg Ring.”

Jim Farley in response (heads Ford’s global marketing): “I wish we could, who wouldn’t want to do that?”

Is Ford scared of the ZL1 even with a 650hp GT500?

All of you worried about the 2013, 2014, etc. models being rated with higher HP numbers don't actually think they will UP the power and not UP the sticker do you?? I think this price is a great value for the car you are getting. If you want the 650HP that "other car" is supposed to be getting, I bet you won't get it for anything close to $55000 base price.

The same thing happened to 2001 Z06 buyers. That car had the 385HP rated LS6. 2002 Z06s were rated at 405HP with basically the same LS6 engine.... But those 2001 Z06s were the first Z06 Vettes when they brought back the package. Will a 2001 be any more important or have more collector value someday, maybe?? Would it have bothered me to have lower HP number than the new model, maybe?? BUT I would have been enjoying the heck out of the 385 horses in the 2001 Z06 while the other guy was waiting for the 2002 edition!

My order if it gets accepted:
Ashen Gray
Manual transmission
Forged aluminum 5-spoke wheels
Exposed weave carbon fiber insert

Exact and on target. The window of opportunity is NOW. This is the 3rd year of the 5th Gen. Great year. Almost like 67-68-69. The MASTERPIECE ZL1 is indeed that! Who would NOT want one NOW? It might get more power, more speed, more more more..... but.... not enough to make you wish you had waited. I'm like you... NOW IS THE TIME!

Check this out.. imagine the Mowhawk on top!!

Is Ford scared of the ZL1 even with a 650hp GT500?
Something tells me that the 650BHP GT500 won't be happy in that race.

BUY IT NOW!

You never know how long it will be before some tree huger organization picks up on this whole HP race thing and makes an issue out of it. They have to justify their existence somehow in order to get our tax dollars to pay their salaries. Its only a matter of time before other causes they have become one of these and they start looking for a new one.

I've seen Cobra's that need 800+ rwhp to run in the 10's.
Unless Ford does something different, the ZL1 doesn't have anything to worry about!
The other thing that GM did right was to offer the ZL1 with an automatic! Ford offers stick only.
Now, I guess I'll wait for a slightly used ZL1 to come up next year or a Heavily modded SS when someone steps up to a ZL1!

You can buy mine, lol. It's not heavily modded yet, but decent start. 5200 miles.

Mine would be that in an auto. Maybe we could race if we both meet up at Camaro5 fest III and have the cars in time.

Three year old Z06's are not "cheap" and three year old Zl1's won't be either.
Try, 10 years old.

I agree with you sprtplt, depends on what the OP meant by "cheap". Maybe it was an unintentional misuse of the word. Reduced price would have been better. The high end toys retain value. The ZL1 I honestly feel will be that one special toy for the ages...like blue chip stock that should be held onto. The ones that do become available for resale down the road will be far and few between, and at a premium. Just a crazy old Camaro's guy's thoughts. I don't think all the fanfare, pagentry, pomp and circumstance surrounding this release is just marketing hype. People who believe they will be able to pick a used one up at big savings will be woefully surprised. There's just not going to be that many of them made I feel.

Matster; You just egging them on so you can beat them all in a race now that you have one of the the most bad ass setups possible, and then the ZL1 mods will start.
