Putting the camaro on jackstands
So I have already winterized my camaro and have placed the car up on jackstands. We placed the stands under all four lower control arms so that the suspension remains under load throughout winter.
Did anybody do this last year and did you have any problems occur?

Is there a purpose to this? I put my car in storage every winter, and never even considered putting it up on jackstands. What's the point, other than trying to prevent flat spots on your tires (which can be remedied by pushing your car forward or back a few inches every few weeks)?

I don't see the purpose of this.
Modern tires do not develop permanent flat spots. My car was stored for 4 months last winter. I put the tire pressure at 38 psi, just slightly over the 36 psi spec. In the spring, the flat spots were gone by the time I got to the end of my street, 200 yards away, and ran smoothly at all speeds. I put another 12,000 on the car this season, and the tires continue to perform perfectly. Compare that to the risk of supporting the car on jackstands, on surfaces not designed for long term loading. It just doesn't make sense to me. |

Park it on cut pieces of plywood and forget the jack stands. Totally not necessary with radial tires if it is just winter storage.

The reason for it is so your tires do not get flat spots in them from sitting in the same spot for a long period of time.

I don't really see reason NOT to do it. The OP is conveniently avoiding rolling it back and forth to avoid temporary flat spots. If he wants to go to that trouble, he's more than welcome to. I would probably do the same.

All these "winter" topic treads make me sad for y'all - I can't imagine NOT driving this car for that long.

Hmmmmm...nor a fan
Even if you live in some of the worst US climate areas and don't want to drive in it, there have got to be good days when you could drive the car. Gees, Chevy built an all season car and the paint, under body and mechanical components won't suffer from minor amounts of bad weather. I'm careful not to leave the garage in bad weather, but have encountered storms while out. Some of these pampered cars will end up on eBay some day with very low mileage selling for only a tiny bit more than average mileage cars and the owner will always wish they had driven the car more often....just my opinion.

I agree the jackstands should not be needed. but where you placed them is just like having the car on the ground as far as your suspension knows... you shouldnt have any problems..

The tires don't flatspot anyway. The only reason to keep it on jackstands is if you are planning some work underneath.
