I've heard Fix a Flat doesn't always work. I've also read where it can damage the sensors used in the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Then when you go to get the tire fixed they may charge you extra for cleaning the goo out. For nails and such I'll probably get something like this to get me home or to the nearest station.

While at the NY auto show I did get into the trunk of a Camaro SS and it did have a spare that was under the carpet in the truck, was not inflated and had a small compressor to go along with it.

I used to work at a tire shop (wal mart) and they wouldn't repair (nails, etc) any performance tires (H rated and up, and performance tires/low profile tires), I don't think this type of repair would be good for the Camaro's tires. Also, Fix a Flat, made a huge mess in the tire, it might get you out of a pinch, but you may need to get a new tire. Depending on where the damage occurs (side wall, non repairable) you would have to get a new tire anyways. These tires are not cheap either on the tirerack's web site- www.tirerack.com Does anyone know of a good website that has good prices on performance tires?

That was not a spare on the SS...It was a foam holder. The SS HAS NOTHING BUT A FOAM HOLDER AND A PUMP!

ANother option is to buy "RUN FLAT" tires if they make them this big!

I plan on carrying a plug patch kit and plugging it myself if its a clean hole (nail, screw, etc.) or call onstar if its worst. If you still plan on getting a spare tire for the SS, remember that you will also need a jack too.

I use the tire plug kit all the time and it is an excellent fix. With the on board air compressor these two go together like peanut butter and jelly.

The SS I looked at at the NY auto show by bumble bee did not have a spare it had a compressor and a can of fix a flat. The rep at the car stated that the bigger wheels came without a spare.

Reading this got me to thinking about my 2009 CTS4 and sure enough no spare tire. Just a portable pump & sealant. Battery is in the truck also.
Compact spare is only a waste anyhow. 95% of them never get used. From the order guide P43 Tire sealant and inflator kit, in place of spare tire included in equipment groups; 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS 2010 Online Order Guide - Chevrolet

I wouldn't use fix-a-flat. It would throw the balance off the tires with all that adhesive foam. Its quite a mess inside.

Remember if you use the sealer to have the tire removed, cleaned and patched. That fix a flat screws up balance with all the goop.
