Thanks for all the input everyone!
First off both dealers are here in CA. The one @ 2500 over msrp is on my way to and from work. The msrp dealer is about 200 miles away. I'm goin to take some of your advice about getting oil changes and service ect. and see if I can get them down even more. Also I had asked Becky to check on my digits from the msrp dealer and she stated the ZL1 allocations did not hit last Thursday and it could be a while. I may just place my order with the msrp + dealer to and see who works the best. Deposits are both refundable ether way.

I would tell the over MSRP dealer to pack sand. They have a right to charge over MSRP and you have the right to say NO. Driving 200 miles for a car in the same state is nothing. Pocket the $2500 and go to the other dealer. It would be a great experience for the new owner of the other deaker to lose your order.

Try Edmonds.com before you go back to the dealer. A couple others have successfully ordered ZL1's at MSRP using this method. You select the car and see if you get any replies. Worth a shot. If you get a car at MSRP then print it out and take it with you to the dealership. It will give you a little extra bargaining power. Yes there will be extra fees associated with buying out of state but that is where the extra $1000 comes in. Best of luck to you my friend. Hope you bag that elusive ZL1! |

this is simple tell the dealership that you will pay MSRP if they won't take it keep looking for one at MSRP.
I was in the same boat as you and I found one. on the flip side if $2500 does not concern you at all then just pay it. for me it was MSRP or no deal period. I hate this markup of items. I don't pay it on guns or cars and I always find what I want for retail or below. To me it is like if you went to grocery store and they had a couple gallons of milk left and they said that will be $10. GREED GREED GREED. they are making a pile of cash at MSRP. you may consider sweeting the deal a little. I mean If I could have found an oregon dealer at 1k over I would have done it as I will have to ship my car from arkansas. To me it is all a math problem. to find one at msrp you may have to go out of state which could cost more money. everybody here in oregon was 2,500-10,000 over it was not hard to just to go elsewhere for less money.

I would walk on any dealer ...
Shame on anyone that pays any type of markup just to be first.

Screw it! I'm just going to order the other one as well. Then when the car comes in I can take my pic from good dealer or bad dealer. Ether way the deposit I was told is still refundable 100% even after the car gets to the dealer.

I dont understand the hang up with MSRP.
Its really an arbitrary number, If the MSRP on this car had come out at 57,000 the masses would defend this as being the deal of the century to the death. |

I hope you see this post. Go to my other post search and see how I used Edmunds.com. We are both in California so many dealers with allocations. There are allocations available for MSRP. Try using Edmunds and using various zip codes. My first try with Edmunds listing and notifying 5 dealers I got 2 calls within ten minutes for MSRP price. Other three were not for MSRP. Thats 40% for MSRP. Good luck
