Weld/Bogarts....any other brand?

Ive already spent a boatload on some custom Modulare and forking out another boatload is hard for me to pull the trigger on. Im on the fence though

CCW is another brand that makes a 17" that will fit, unfortunately, they cost about the same as the Bogarts. If you're willing to go up to 18's, you can find some inexpensive corvette replica wheels that will fit really nice.

But for 17's, I think Bogart, Weld, and CCW are it.

I forgot about CCW.......

I already have some 18's with DR's on them, but my car just went through a major drive-train conversion and the 18's will no longer work for the set-up. It blows the tires off the line even launching with idle or 2k. Ive gotta have some slicks!!

Plus with the 18DR's the Trans-brake is basically useless.

I wanna keep my stock brakes and calipers and would like to keep the stock LCA as well, but i may have to purchase some aftermarket LCA's for the 17's. Anyone know?

There have been several reports of the Weld Wheels contacting (rubbing) the LCA's during a hard launch, but it has primarily involved lowered suspension cars. BMR will be releasing a new adjustable LCA within the next few weeks to resolve that issue, but the new LCA's will cost about $500. I have not heard of anyone having any contact/rubbing issues at all with the Bogarts or CCW's. However, the Bogarts or CCW's will probably cost about $600-$800 more than the Welds. The Bogarts are beautiful wheels, but they are very costly, and they are not really intended for street use (susceptible to damage), whereas the Welds are actually categorized as a "street-performance" wheel. I just purchased my Welds for about $1700 (shipped) brand new.

Did you buy your Welds from a dealer? Im wondering the specs of the wheels (offset, backspacing, ect....) if purchased from somewhere like Jegs

I bought my Welds from McCormack Racing (I asked for $25 off per wheel, and they gave it to me!!!).

The fronts are 17x5 (2.20 B.S.) -21mm offset (P/N 71HB7050N22A)....The "B" in the P/N is for "Black", if you want polished, change it to "P".

The rears are 17x10 (7.20 B.S) +44mm offset (P/N 71HB7100N72A)....Same with the "B or P" thing.

If you order these exact P/N's (regardless of the vendor), you will get the correct wheels.

Weld also makes a 17x4.7 if you wanted to go just a touch skinnier on the fronts?!?!?

A wheel manufacturer would make a fortune if they could build a set of reasonably price 17s that fit the Camaro SS rear without modding the suspension. Since Weld, Bogart and CCW have done it, it can't be that difficult. I can't understand the high price since building a wheel is "building a wheel" regardless of the specs the process and materials are essentially the same.

I think your statement is just a tad too generic. There are some major differences in materials and techniques between wheel manufacturers which can make their wheels expensive or cheap. For example, the materials and processes used in manufacturing cast wheels are significantly different from that of a true forged wheel. In some high-end wheels (like Forgeline), I would say their high cost is fairly justified. Then you get into the the whole 1-piece, 2-piece, or 3-piece that all affects pricing and labor times too. Don't get me wrong, I do think that someone needs to produce an inexpensive 17" alternative, but as of yet, it hasn't happened. Race Star Industries tried to do it with their "92 Series Drag Stars", but after looking at it, they ended up dropping the idea of the 17's and moving up to 18's. Not sure why that was easier, I guess less engineering needed??? In the end, RSI produced an 18x10.5 specifically designed for the 5th Gen Camaro that is still $400 per wheel. So much for their "less-expensive" alternative!!!
