Removing 2011 SS Brembo Noise Dampeners

Hey everyone

I Bought 19" MSW Type 16 Wheels with Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Sow tires (<1000 miles) on them. Went to put them on today and they don't fit over the Noise Dampeners that they instituted this year on the SS. I will be calling the dealer on Monday to see if they can take these off, or swap them or something. Have anyone had success with taking them off? If it isn't possible, I'll be looking to sell the setup if anyone is interested. Thanks.

I believe those are attached through the pins that hold on the brake pads. Pop out those pins and they can be removed then put the pins back in (make sure you don't lose the spring loaded tab that holds in the pads.

They actually started coming on the mid year 2010's. They are part of the brake pad and cannot be removed with the pins. Try a aftermarket pad from Hawk.

Removing 2011 SS Brembo Noise Dampeners

I am running 19" OEM Camaro wheels with my winter rubber and the noise dampeners did not have to be removed as there is sufficient clearance. I did have to use a 3mm spacer on the fronts in order to clear the calipers however.

Angle grinder works. I hacked mine off in about 10 minutes per side. No issues or strange noises or squeaks.

Most people just remove the pads and chop em off. A dremel, tinsnips, etc should work from what people have posted.

Do the rollerskates actually dampen the noise?

The one on the left is a hydraulic spreader and the right is a hydaulic cutter. They use 10,000 psi when powered up.

High performance brake pads make noise. On the SS the only way to reduce the noise is to dumb down the pads You'll hear many disagree and claim they have replaced pads and the brakes are no quieter and makes less dust while stopping better. Being politically correct, I'll just say I have yet to see any data that supports this claim

The roller skates are there to add mass to the caliper and pad assembly. The greater mass alters the harmonic and reduces noise. Yes they do work, but not to the satisfaction of many. The real question is why is the brake noise a problem? The best brake pads money can buy squeal like a stuck pig. Check any SCCA road course or autocross event to verify this with your own ears.

In the 5th Gen community an engine growl is well received, but performance brake noise is not welcome. If you check forums for other respected brands using Brembo brakes you'll find similar issues, so the 5th Gen community is not alone in this.
