Honestly, how many of you are buying the ZL-1 because of hype

We all know that the ZL-1 is going to be a HOT car. I'm kind of wondering how many of you are buying the car just because you can and after the excitement wears off will sell?

I think there is much less people who buy the ZL1 on hype...compared to the Camaro V6 and SS...the ultimate transformers yuppie car.

Sorry armysig, I just checked with Santa and he says he does not foresee any available used ZL1's until they release the twin turbo 427 version in 2020

I am buying it with the intent on seeing my grand kids get to ride it in some day. Note: I don't even have a kid yet so grandkids are a long ways off.

Pretty loaded poll, huh? How 'bout those who are buying this machine because the lustful joy we will have with it is reason enough?

I was considering a good used Nissan GT-R but thought parts hard to find and insurance is terrible.

For example front brake rotors list for $1300 each and pads are $800

Most people are in denial. 97% are hype-buys. Regardless of my brand loyalty, I would never buy a car without actually driving it first, or it having a whole model year under its belt on the road, or at least knowing some people with experience with it.

When I first saw the 5 gens on the road, I knew it was just a matter of time before I purchased one. I was waiting for the Z28, but honestly the
ZL1 will come pretty close to what I'm looking for. Which is that true excitement I felt when I bought my new 87 Grand National.
Would I sell this car, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Unless
something really special comes out with the new camaro's in the future.

Buying without a test drive has nothing to do with hype. I bought my last two cars without so much as a test drive and they were not performance cars by any means. My current vehicle was purchased in the first model year and I was one of the first in the area to get one. It had nothing to do with hype or status. Tons of research done before hand narrowed down my choice to the vehicles I purchased. I didn’t want to get a long-in-the-tooth version when the redesign would be released a few months later. I didn’t have to step foot in the car to know what I wanted and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase 5 years later.

For me, the same goes for the ZL1. I’ve narrowed it down beforehand. No test drive of any other car in the price range is going to change my mind.

I agree to an extent. Likely, over 50% of the people who bought the Camaro did so because of the hype from the robots movies..hyper-buy as you call it and nothing wrong with that. I for one, like many here, bought my 5th gen Camaro (my 6th Camaro) sight unseen (except pics) and no test drive...but not a hyper-buy at all. I bought my GT500 without test driving it...I actually didn't see it until I went to pay for it as it had to be delivered to my local dealer from a different dealer....again, not a hyper-buy. I recently bought a 2012 Honda Civic...again, no need to test drive....sure, if something wrong with the car, well warranty will take care of it. I bought a lot of new cars without test driving. Some simply know what they are getting and owned enough cars that they don't need to test drive cars to make a decision. They let the magazines reviews do that for them. Having said that, I agree, a test drive is good before buying a car. If you are buying a used car...then a test drive is a must.

I've been waiting for this car before the 5th gen was even released, so this is not some impulse purchase based off of hype. It took a lot of willpower to not settle and wait for the top dog, especially during the bailout period when all signs pointed to this model being axed. I kept the faith, and I am very glad I did. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and brighter everyday.

Not trying to start a war with you here, but you state it has nothing to do with hype or status, yet you are sure to note that you were the first one in the area to get one... that is a bit contradictory.

Not saying you need to drive another car in the price range to change your mind, but market experience and actual road experience are certainly worthwhile to consider.

The new gen GTO comes to mind. Many people, myself included, wrung our hands when it was first introduced in '05 wanting to get a new body muscle car which we hadn't seen since the camaro/trans am left us in 02. GTO had a LS1 in 05, and moved to an LS2 in 06/07, among other nice changes.

To me, buying a car without its production yet to experience the road IS a hype-buy. Sorry. I'm all about about research as well, but I still didn't buy my camaro until I had real-world feedback and experience to compare that research to.
