Subwoofer location

Where is the location for the LPO subwoofer option; trunk, deck behind the rear seat? TIA!

While we're on the subject, let's also discuss where the subwoofer should be as opposed to simply where it is. If we're going aftermarket, what would you guys recommend?

I'm not sure what other's are doing with there Camaro's but I'm going with 2 pairs of shallow mount subwoofers on the walls in the trunk area. Shallow mount subs can mount with less than 4" of depth and can be installed into places most wouldnt even imagine.

With my design, I can drop the back seat while sitting in the driver seat looking back and still see the rear of the trunk.

But that's only if your craming for trunk capacity like me. I go camping 10 to 15 times a year so trunk space is everything when you want to shove a tent/coolers/gear in there.

The shallow mount subs will also allow you to install more than 2 if your a freak like I am and want not just quality but also more volume.

Notice how small his boxes are which would fit nicely in the trunk of a Camaro! Whatever your decision is, a subwoofer sure makes a huge difference to a car audio system.

I think I'll have to wait and see the trunk in the Camaro and listen to the BA audio system before I decide what, if anything, I want to do to improve the stereo. I don't think I'll want this car's stereo to be as loud as the system I have in my S-10 Blazer right now, but I definately want to make sure it sounds nice.

I'm seriously investigating subwoofers right now, but I'm concerned about having to use Dynomat all over my performance car. I did a lot of research when I put a system in my Cobalt, but I want to start from scratch and hear some more opinions before I make any commitments in the Camaro. Since this is a performance car, I'm only wanting a basic system that will still allow me to enjoy my music with a little extra vigor. I'm really interested in spending my money on performance rather than audio.

I've got two 12" Alpine Type-R's in a sealed box I built in my S-10 Blazer that provide amazingly clean, deep bass, and they're only powered by a Bazooka 550W mono amp. I've had this setup since about 2002, so after 7 years, the subs still hit hard, still sound great, and I didn't spend a boatload on the setup.

Anyone who's only looking for good clean sound and isn't interested in trying to win SPL/SQL competitions on the weekend, I would seriously urge you to consider Alpine subs. They use a sturdy, reliable construction and will last forever.

Very interesting. Even though it is a shallow mount and not very much volume as far as the box is concerned, does it still perform with clear, crisp low end yet thump too? It seems you would be sacrificing performance by having such a small enclosure...or has Pioneer come up with new technology that no longer needs big bulky enclosures.

Also, if I go with a sub, I would want an installation where I could move the sub to the side so as not to block the opening going between the trunk and the cabin, i.e., back seat folded down in order to stow elongated cargo. Right now in my current car, my sub is fixed in place (and bulky leaving very little room for cargo) but I don't have fold down seats so no problem. I would still want to be able to use the cargo option as stated above. With this said, would the "12 shallow sub with enclosure included (on their website) be what I would need to consider? Then on top of that, what sort of amp would I need, a 200, 300, 400 watt amp? I guess I would afix the amp to the back of the enclosure, right? I don't need to rattle the windows but I do like rich, enhanced low end and I do like to roll down the windows and pump the music on rare occassions. I'm not hardcore but I do enjoy the enriched experience a decent sub adds to the music. I like clean, crisp low end. I DO NOT like distorted low end that sounds like somebody just ripped a$$, y'know? I can't stand that. Here is the "prefab" unit I'm considering thanks to DJ's post...



I guess I would have to rig something up to keep it in place. Something simple I could undo in order to move the sub around to the side when I need to use the cargo space via opening between trunk and cabin. Any suggestions or is this a totally bad idea?

I'm betting in a short while we'll see Q-Logic and MTX Thunderform type vehicle specific sub enclosures that will fit nice and neat behind the tire tucked under the huge overhanging body panel. I'm too lazy to find a pic to explain what I'm thinking though

thats where the Bose sub is on a fourth gen. and the other side is the spare tire.

The audio sytem is already good enough as is. Personally, I wouldnt spend any money on it
