Question Shorties

hey guys,

im thinking about getting shorties. i live in california so long tubes cant happen :(

anyways, i have a bbk cold air intake and a borla atak axleback exhaust, and it sounds really good. but its not enough for me so i want to get something that would increase the sound even if there is no power gain.

so the problem is, is that ive heard other people on the forum with shorties, and theyre camaros sound really raspy. i dont want that, im looking for a deep, muscle car sound.

what shorties do you think i should get that could give a deep sound and thats legal in california?

also should i get a tune? just like a tune from JRE or something like that...

thanks in advance!!!

I have Doug Thorleys, Solo HF cats, and Borla axleback and it's deep, not raspy. ARH has shorties coming out soon that look to be far and above everyone else. I would wait for them. But really your best bet would be replacing the stock cats with HF cats, if the eco-Nazis that run CA will allow that.

I have the JBA shorties with sw retro cat-back no rasp or drone. No leaks either. I do like ARH shorties that are coming out, so I might just buy those and sell my JBA's on ebay. Here is what my car sounds like

You can you just have to swap them out when you get smogged. I have JBA hi flows with JBA shorties and no mufflers in CA, its super loud!

I have the same set up. Simply swap out the cats during smog time. The laws here are nuisance but there are ways around them. You can run shorties but without high flow cats they dont do much, and it's a huge debate that they do anything at all. But if you have to choose JBA's and Doug thorley are top choices I've seen. I run JBA's

you would get a slight sound difference....very slight. If its sound your looking for high flow cats are the way to go. the sound difffernce by just getting those is huge.

this is a rev off between Revo1 and I...

Revo1(red SS) has LT's no cats full exhaust 3in with mufflers

I have Shorties, high flow cats, x-pipe and muffler delete.....

I completely disagree that shorties do not add power. I had my car dyno'd at 394 before tune and 398 peak, settle at 396 when we just adjusted the spark ALONE. We did not mess with any fuel trim or anything other than the knock retard we saw, we adjusted the spark by 3 degrees at certain areas and gained more power. Car has been dyno'd at 360-366 stock pending on air temp and engine temp. I have a CAI and ported tb, but those are not going to gain 30hp, the shorties make a difference in the bigger picture.
