Average speed was around 75-80 mph. I know that 26 mpg isnt the best, but for a 6.2L V8, I think its amazing that this car can manage its fuel so effectively. Just another great reason for why I love this car so much. Also, hit the 10,000 mile mark on the way down! I'm 1/3 of the way to getting some new cams!

why would you upgrade your cams at 30k miles? vs now or when the warranty ends

I am right there with you. Been getting 14.5 pretty much all the time, but I never really get onto the freeway or out of 4th gear almost ever.

For me once I go over 60 my mileage drops to where you are at. If I put the cruise on, hold steady at 60 MPH and get passed by Prius' I can get better than 26. That's with a M6. I've played these mileage games going to work too. There's a 10 mile stretch I travel that is 45-50 MPH with stoplights that vary between 1/2 to 1 mile apart. If I stay at 45 in 6th gear I can get above 20 MPG. Now, that's shifting at 1,500 RPM until I'm in 6th and literally letting 4 bangers out accelerate me. A couple of times stepping on it and the average MPG drops to 17-18 on the same stretch. Not the way I normally drive, I did it a few times to merely see what I could get.

BTW, that was pre-headers and cats. Lead foot syndrome has caused my mileage to drop significantly.

Soo, you are from Cody, Wyoming. Now I understand your moniker: Pawhasku. Is that after Pahaska TeePee? I spent some great times cross country skiing when we lived in Lovell. Man, you live in awesome country. I miss it alot. What kind of tires were you running? Blizzaks? I don't think those Pirelli would get you there.

Driving back and forth to college, from my house in south-central Kentucky to my apartment in lima, ohio was right around 315 miles. In the hills and hollers' of kentucky, my car got a best of 25 with a trunk full of clothes, books, and a passenger with the cruise set at 78 mph. On the flat roads in Ohio, it got a best of 28.8 with the cruise set at 73. I was pretty excited haha. Who said pushrod engines aren't "efficient"? I have a picture i took on my old phone, sorry it's a little blurry as it was taken going up I-75 at around 70mph.(no traffic, of course!)

Note to the OP: The V8 is an over head valve design, so we only have one cam.

If you cruise at 55mph, you will average about 28-29mpg. At 65 you will average about 26-27. Not surprised that you are getting 23-24 at 70.

Ya, I'm talking real world. Here in the No East most of the interstate speed limits are 65. Everyone drives 5-10 over, so that's what I do.
Drive 55-60 around here and every truck and bus on the road will be passing you.
My window sticker says "25 highway" so I didn't buy this car for mileage..... I'm taking it out today with no particular place to go-lol.

I average anywhere between 14 - 15 but I do mostly city driving to and from work in stop and go traffic.

Whenever I hit the highway, that number immediately jumps up to somewhere around 20.

I didn't buy my Camaro for gas mileage but my 2011 Impreza was only getting 18 and my 07 Jetta got roughly 17 so I am more than content with the roughly 14 I get in the city. I unfortunately don't drive very much due to work but the ride to and from is awesome. A full tank can get me through the weeks so all is well for me.

I'm actually shocked that not only am I getting advertised MPG, but that the costs are about the same per week as they were with my older cars. Just another reason to continue to love my car.

With my MODs, I average 22.5 - 24 on hwy. It is not so bad cross country. I get about 320 to 350 before I get gas.
