Not that there's any way to tell who he is, but autocruzer didn't say anything about replacing the calipers, just that only the early builds would have the weights.

I would think that if the problem could have been resolved with a simple change in pads (without sacrificing something else) GM would have certainly done that instead. Then again... lead weights are a lot cheaper than brake pads...

And yes, this is undoubtedly a fix for a noise problem. There's lots of ways it can be explained but here's the simplest I can think of...

For anyone that's been into car stereos forever Dynamat used to have a little product demo that was very simple. They had two clerk / desk bells (like you used to find in hotels), one rang just as expected but the other had a small nickel sized piece of Dynamat stuck on the bell and it would not ring. It absorbed the resonance / vibration.

I hope they come up with a better solution for those that get the weights though. If I windup with one with weights I certainly wont be worried about it for quite a while but I would certainly expect them to correct it in a better manner.

Well, it took quite a bit of time to read through 13 pages of posts, and thanks Tran for limiting that somewhat, but I did learn quite a bit. Like UCF w00t, I had trouble seeing how resonance could be the issue, thinking that was only a problem with larger sprung masses with large moments, such as airplane wings and suspension bridges - we all remember the Tacoma Narrows bridge - but it is true everything has a resonant frequency and no other explanation makes sense.
Mass, or weight, of the car sets no limit on solving the problem, it's strictly mathematics. So, it's a bit unnerving that the folks at Brembo got the math wrong. And yes, the weights are not an acceptible solution, but apparently a proper one is coming for the early builds. Just one of those first year build things any initial buyer has to endure....and we all will!!!

yeah i think someone mentioned that the CTF vehicles didnt have these weights on the calipers. below is a picture of fbods car, Thor, and the calipers dont seem to have anything on them (besides a rather large chip in the paint, wonder how that happened??). and if they did i would have noticed instantly and asked Number 3 what exactly they were for. furthermore, Number 3 took myself and a few others for a 15 or so minute ride in the car (THANKS AGAIN!!!!

) and there was absolutely no sign of sqeaks, squeals, or screeches at any speed. is it possible that they're using a different brake caliper than they used on the CTF vehicles?

Hey Tony, that looks to me like a white paint spot peeling off. Don't know why it'd be there except as an identifier of some sort.

If thats the case I see GM doing a service bulletin soon. This is not a safety issue since it's just noice, they should take care of it soon enough.
